  1. I have installed Windows ME on this laptop. Couldn't get a single driver to work though. Just add : MaxPhysPage=40000 to the [386enh] section of system.ini after the DOS based setup. You will get a BSOD involving ACPI though. When it halts the system, just reboot and it will boot into ME. When Setup is done and you get into ME, install KernelEx, You can do this by downloading unicows.exe (Microsoft Layer for Unicode for 95,98,ME), copy those files to C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM. Then KernelEx will install. The BSOD for ACPI should go away. It's up to you for the drivers though........

  2. I am interested in running some older OSes. Particularly, Windows 98/ME. Would these specs work out?  And if they don't what could I run?

    It's a Dell Optiplex 780:

    Core 2 Duo 2.93GHz

    8GB RAM

    Dell 03NVJ6 Motherboard

    Intel Q45/Q43 Express Chipset

A 250GB SATA HDD (with legacy options)

SoundMAX Integrated HD Audio (if this is for the integrated speaker and the headphone jack will still work, I don't need it)

And a Belkin USB Wireless Adapter (fine if i can't use it)

  3. Do Windows 2000 or XP.

I have a Dell D630 Latitude that has:

    Intel GM965 Chipset

    Dell 1390 wireless

SigmaTel 92XX HD Audio C Major

    Broadcom 57XX Gigabit Ethernet

Conexant D330 Soft Data Fax Modem

    Alps Touchpad

80GB HDD (I do smaller partitions for W2K)

    Specs:

    Core 2 Duo 2GHz

    2GB DDR2 Ram

358-384 MB Integrated Graphics (depends on OS)

Windows XP works just fine, so does 2K, but I had to hunt down a wireless driver. Found it though. Tried NT4, wouldn't even load setup, and ME, I can get it installed but even with KernelEx can't get ANY of the drivers on it.

So go with W2K or XP.
