What is the way to solve the current situation? Googling around I found a workaround of the problem - to edit the recovery settings of the service "DCOM Server Process Launcher" so that it restarts itself not the computer. The DCOM is mentioned because it was problematic before. Now the "Plug and play" service causes problems. Give me a clue...
  2. 1) Discussion is about: -------------------------- [1]> OS: Windows Vista Business Edition. [2]> Establishing a PPPoE connection. 2) Problems: --------------- [1]> The speed of the internet connection and transfer rate are greatly lowered in comparison with the provided such by the ISP. This problem is observed during file download, playing media online, videoconferencing, etc. [2]> Automatic disconnecting while doing nothing to provoke a response of the Vista's networking system of that kind. More detailed explanation: ----------------------------- The NIC is manufactured by Gembird and is equipped with Realtek chipset. In fact that was a very polemic circumstance. The drivers that the manufacturer provided were compatible only with versions of Windows <= XP but the chipset supplier of the LAN adapter mentioned above had already ensured a driver supporting the latest MS OS. So ... When running Windows XP SP2 AutoPatched connecting through a WAN Miniport wasn't a problem but...then came Vista. At first I was prejudiced of incompatibility of the most of my hardware components and mainly of the NIC. Immediately after installing Vista I got the drivers needed for the main components of my computer system and made a PPPoE connection without any drivers manually installed (I used the adjective "manually" because I did not make Windows search automatically for the LAN adapters and subsequenty searching for drivers for such, nor I made an attempt of manual install of the drivers needed for recognizing the NIC.) I was immediately granted access to the Internet with the provided by the ISP speeds of the connection. Later on Vista found automatically Realtek driver for the LAN adapter: Realtek RTL8139/810x Family Fast Ethernet NIC ..., not the Gembird one. The drivers weren't problematic and everything was going fine with the PPPoE connection. The mentioned above problem occured after some days and what I only found was that: - the problem is not concerned about the ISP (the speed was tested on a Windows XP laptop) - couldn't make connection and hence establishing connection in Safe Mode - a guide for configuring PPPoE under Windows XP in a another ISP homepage was informing that the "Service Name" field in "Connection Properties" should be equal with the ISP's name but I thought the "Connection Name" should be such; in fact the "Connection Name" wasn't constraining the availability of connectiveness or the connectivity itself; when filling the "Service Name" field the state message while connecting changed from "Connecting through WAN Miniport (PPPOE) ..." to "Dialing $ISP_Name$". After filling the field with the value provided the chance of getting connected dropped to zero.
  3. The problem: i mount an image (.iso .cue), then I try to install the software it contains. The setup runs with no problems , but when I press the final "next" button and when the installation is supposed to start normally...it doesn't. 1. The installation process should be seen during the installation time but not. 2. The hard disk is working and the msiexec.exe process(es) are using some % of the cpu. 3. The folder i requested the current software to be installed is getting bigger in size and the files in it have been created as if it is a normal installation. Here is the strangest thing...when eventually the data on the current image have been wroted to the hard disk in the requested folder, some seconds after the contents of the folder begin to disappear and finally after some seconds the whole folder is deleted himself. Probable reason: I have had problems with some of the services that are run through svchost.exe...it was taking the cpu usage to ~50-60%. Then I looked up in an article: http://www.experts-exchange.com/Operating_...Q_20947897.html There or in another one was mentioned to unlock the system information folder on the system harddisk and do something with the _restore directory. I think I have forgotten to perform some of the listed actions in the guide there and locked the folder again. If there is any resolution to the problem except windows reinstallation share it with me.
  4. this is discussion on the questioning i put with my topic; i have it but if it is the right way to change the type of font for the system [not "display properties\appearance\..."] then how to change their properties - font size, boldness, cursiveness, underlining, colour, ; the option i found was DPI formatting in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Software/Microsoft/WindowsNT/CurrentVersion/FontDPI
  5. http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?act=ST&f=80&t=34962 this is where i found solution of the problem related to the impossibility of the program's installer to access \{any location (in my case it is startup)}; now i try to install the next version (7 Pro) but the problem encounters me again; the link given above shows resolve of this common problem and my question is: Where to put the registry values?
