I am trying to burn a simple Music Fisc from song that are on my PC every times I attempt to burn anything it says you much first put ina blank Disc to record to..well this IS a dang disc in there, it just is not picking it up or something...I have changed dics and they are all new, memorex CD R I chenkc the properties, says it is enabled, opens and closes but windows is not showing there is a disc in to record on It says please insert a blank or rewritable CD....well there is one there dumb PC... Can anyone please help me . Thanks

I tried to install Canon Publisher and it is trying to install in E drive which when I go into my computer it show an E drive under removable storage...I have a CD/DVD drive..which is not removable and I though was called D drive...the only removable storage I have ever used was an F or J drive..those little media cards or jump drives I have no E drive..I tried to manually install going to fun "\SETUP" and it tells me that it can't locate that drive..I am so freaking confused...does anyone know how to fix this, I shouldbe able to install a simple program thanks

Don't know what the issue is, we have 2 identies in outlook express, we have always been able to get our mail from either, now we can only get it from one and the other gives a hosing error or a server error and also wants my name and password even though it is checked to save that, I have gone in and verified that the pop server was correct and the same and the other as well as the smpt server and so on, the pop3 keeps changing back to a number not the pop that i enter and apply, I have also added a new identy under the same wmail address and server information just to see if the other one had a corrupt file or something and that did not work it gave me the same type of errors. I can go on line and get this accounts mail that way so it only happend in outlook and only with this particular user email not the other..... ANY IDEAS????

Okay, I spent 2 days working on my Grandpa PC that has Windows XP and ended up having to reinstall and take back to factory (gateway) settings, updated Virsus scan, have PC doctor and Lava soft Ad ware personal and immediately start getting these popups that look like windows message, but i am sure they are bogus becasue they want me you to go to some fix-repair website and buy some program, but the adware does not pick this up and I cant get rid of it, so I just keep X in out of it, how can i get rid of it? one example is ......Windows Messenger service Message fom system to alert on 10:03:05 Microdoft windows has encountered an internal error. Your windows registry is corrupt. Microsoft reccomneds A complete system scan. visit this website to repair http://e-regfix.com A few different versions of these come up ramnomly, not even connected to the inter net, my grandpa called me today and said that he had a message telling me that windows was missing some type of files and he needed to insert his disc, he put in his recovery disc then it asked him for key which he didn't have because it is a Gateway factory resoration disc, I had him just cancel and reboot then it was fine....until the next time it happens...which i am sure will be tomorrow... how can i fix this ???

Hey, just here for some knowledge and help...know a little but not much, sick of PC problems...looks like there is some good info here... I am an old decrepid mom of 4, running all over the city and internet for sports, school and whatever else is thrown my way.... thanks in advance for your knowledge....I am a do it yourself type since other idiots seem to screw things up and charge you for their time...so If i can do It i will as long as ther is guidence out there for me.... Just in the last 2 days when I send email or try to open any contacts in my address book it starts scrolling thru All of them super fast and out of control, will not stop until it is done, did virus scan and nothing shows up, it is DRIVING me nuts, I know something is wrong and can't find anything in Microsof trouble shooting help for OE...HELP

Well, I got one, it was too short, not over all, but the middle hook up..it only went toa Zip drive that i never used anyway, so i din't even hook that part up, instead i got out a burner that someone had given me and hooked it up with the CD rom drive...using the same EIDE tape, my regular cd rom drive is FINALLY working even though the burner is not...should I use a seperate cbale for that...?? Any way ...THANKS for ALL!! At least my regular one is going now!!

okay, going now to get a EIDE Cable, I have one i stole off of an older machine, but I will just start fresh.... You said [that pin1(the coloured wire on mose EIDE cables) plugs into the right hand side of the cdrom... I thought these were 2 different cables....middle cable didn't have anyother pin attached to it, it did have a colored end and then the one that went in the mother board was black... I will chek back...

Yes, It is Gateway and Yes their support stinks.... It was made in 2000... I have a cable...I am assumins it is the tape ...about the size of duct tape...that you are refering to... there are 2 other hook ups that are corded wires..don't know tha technicle names...the one that clips in on the right of the cdrom and then this tape one in the center and them the 2 prong on the right side... Sorry to sound ingnorant here, just have not dealt with this before...I don't trust a company...gateway screwed up my PC long ago and I will do it myself as long as I can figure it out... So, I will see if I have a new cable to try, if not i will get one... as far as a dirver update...meaning go to gateway or MSN and download and update on a disc and put it in?? Thanks

I have windows 98 se, just disconected from line and replaced w/new pc...the old pc with wind 98se had a CD Rom problem...for some reason a couple months ago it quit working, it would open and close just not read, i never looked into until I tried to set it up for my kids to play games on...though the Rom iself was bad and needed new, I put in a different one and it didn't work either...checked the old one it worked hooked up, so i re-installed the old one and when I tried, it would not read....I check my devices it does not even show me having a CD Rom. I went into add hardware to add it and it wont add it, it either lock up on me or it ask me to put in the windows disc or to specify where to load the driver from and obviously i cann't use the CD Rom driver for the resoration disc or the Windows 98 se disk becasue my PC thinks I don't have a CD Rom.. I tried to go back and so a scan resg/restore and it won't let me go back to before 1/1/05...not sure why, I have done this in the past when i had other problelms..not with the CD rom, but other programs...and have never had a problem with going back until now... I have always had my virus scan, updates ect upto date so I don't think it is that.... is there anything i can do before I totally wipe everything out or just put in a new hard drive all together... I just want my poor kids to be able to put in theor disc and play their games....UGH

Yes, My new pc has XP home SP2 installed, however I only have the XP restoration Disc that came with it, I though nlite wanted me to copy from that, which i cannot. I bought the Non SP2 Pro (which I have the disc in hand)so I could upgrade my new pc...not realizinging there would be a probem having SP2 already installed on my new PC...so I have not used my new liscencd copy of Pro Yet...I am legal on that issue, I just need to know how to do this.
