I am running Windows XP Service Pack 2 with Windows Firewall on Comcast cable with the Linksys BEFSR11 router and WAP11 Network Access Point and a Dell TrueMobile 1180 Internal 802.11b Mini PCI Card on my Inspiron 8200. When connecting to my wireless router, which assigns ip addresses within our house to two computers, my taskbar icon will continuously say "Acquiring IP address". At this point, I will actually have internet connectivity, however it is very slow (a maximum of 13KBps down). I have taken my settings from ipconfig /all and manually inserted them into my TCP/IP adapter. This connects me to the Internet and I can download at my normal speed (a maximum of 400KBps down). However, every few hours I will lose access to the web, yet I will not be disconected from IRC (eg all ports work but 80 as far as I can tell). The only way I can get my web access back is to disable my wireless adapter and reenable it. At this point, even though my IP settings are manually configured, it will still say "Acquiring IP address". By going to my wireless adapter > properties > TCP/IP > properties > and then simply clicking OK without changing anything, windows again recognizes my manually configured IP settings. Wash, rinse, repeat 2-3 times per day. What can I do?
