  1. 💡Boot Manager (Important!)

    device should be system volume: according to the repair guide I shared ^

    so partition=\Device\HarddiskVolume5 should be partition=\Device\HarddiskVolume1 for me (SYS partition is vol1 according to list vol)

    Windows Boot Manager
    --------------------
    identifier              {bootmgr}
    device                  unknown
    path                    \EFI\Microsoft\Boot\bootmgfw.efi
    description             Windows Boot Manager
    locale                  en-us
    inherit                 {globalsettings}
    default                 {current}
    resumeobject            {062fd573-b645-11ee-bb50-fbd2e6a76d0a}
    displayorder            {current}
    toolsdisplayorder       {memdiag}
    timeout                 30

    change:

    bcdedit /set {bootmgr} device partition=\Device\HarddiskVolume1

    Following this I was able to point the current entry to the vhd files (this was failing with the invalid device error until I fixed unknown {bootmgr} device

    But I couldn't see this with bcdedit, until I enumerated

    I don't know if this is right...

    C:\Windows\System32>bcdedit /v

  2. 🆘 I don't want to reset yet as I don't have any recovery option, I've just tried to build my first win11, and think I've broke my BCD.

    My disks (currently, after installing new "windows 11 reference" volume

    disk 2 is my current c: , residing on disk 0 partition 2 i:\win11.vhdx

      Disk 4    Online           70 GB      0 B

    Partitions on main disk - should I have used SYS partition for the new boot partition when installing to new vhd ?

    partition 1 was S: - I removed, assigned S: to the FAT partition I created in the VHD volume

    Disk 4 is the new vhd windows disk that was made

    The other disks aren't important for boot.

    The BCDEdit from C:

    A device which does not exist was specified.

    I noticed this after noticing the app appeared to close (I was awaiting system reboot, which I may have disabled)

    If I reboot I fear I'm stuck unable to boot into anything, or even kicked out of C: ain't great.

    Can anyone make any suggestions? Ideally bcdedit steps with any diskpart / bcdboot etc?

    Thanks!!

    Searched for this as a previous tweak here, couldn't find it... sorry if it's old hat to anyone! :)

    I had this crazy idea the other day... lots of people know the property sheet guid for Author, Title, etc. is {883373C3-BF89-11D1-BE35-080036B11A03}. These properties are stored as alternate data streams in the file. You can right-click just about any file, go to properties, and you'll see a 'Summary' tab where you can set these (and an advanced button to access a few more).

    Knowing only the basics of ADS, I wondered if folders could have them. So I went to the following registry key:

    HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Folder\shellex\PropertySheetHandlers

    ... and added {883373C3-BF89-11D1-BE35-080036B11A03} as a sub-key. I figured I would either have the coolest tweak I'd seen in a long time, or my hard drive would melt. Lo 'n Behold, it worked! Now I can select a dozen folders, right-click, and set categories!!

    What's the point? See picture:

    I would love to see the picture!!

    Add the column 'categories' (mine is sized to be hidden)

    how do you do this, and... why?

  4. Hi

    I have some software that I think will work in 32-bit, but always starts 64 because of my architecture.

    The problem is I kinda want to run some in 32-bit mode sometimes

    VLC has a minlyrics plugin to automatically play music. I usually use MediaMonkey, but I do love lyrics, and there's a vlc plugin installed, it's just not 64 bit.

    Can't find a 64 bit plugin, and have a few apps with similar scenarios, and I'd like to test running in 32bit, but have very little programming/common sense.

    I have XP mode, I'm loooking at vmplayer to launch the vhd. as windows virtual pc requires validation, and when I download the genuine check it says it needs updating.... ridiculous! something's always getting in the way!

    so, if anyone has had success setting up xp mode vhd on home premium using virtual pc (or without maybe? i can attach a vhd in disk management, just don't wanna break my pc .. again)

    I've downloaded xp mode.which is a vhd. Now I'm a bit lost!

    Some* (maybe all non 64bit apps) have XP SP3 as an option in compatability, but not the 64bit ones.

    any suggestions welcome! thanks
