  1. Download Classic Theme restorer for FF, then under Toolbars (2) click Tab/menu/tabs toolbar: remove background color (Windows 10). I would also recommend Tab Mix plus to change the color of the tab titles since it can be hard to read with aero on. 868b61792d.jpg

    Thanks.

As for tab backgrounds I recommend using this.

  2. if there's anything to improve on, something i'd like to change (not sure how though! if you know, that would be awesome) is that when you have say, a window open, its seethrough and blurry as should be, but its a blue colour? and when i lose focus on that window by clicking somewhere else, it removes that blue colour hue. so what i was wondering is, is it possible to keep all windows with no colour, even when in focus of the window? so its got no blue, completely seethrough whether or not the window is in focus, since i prefer it when there's no blue colour... hope this made sense!

Not sure if this is what you want but try this:

    Right-click desktop -> Personalize -> Windows -> Color

Choose any color except the automatic one, then set the color intensity (the slider) to the lowest value.

    Save changes.

Now the border is completely see-through regardless of what your wallpaper is or whether the window is focused or not.

  3. I don't know whether this is by design but whenever I installed some updates (which require restart) and then turned off my computer (Start menu -> Shut down), the updates won't be applied. And they will never be applied until I do a proper "restart" (once I got a notification that installed updates from weeks ago were still not applied).

If it is by design then can you implement some options (like "Shut down and apply updates", "Shut down without applying updates", etc.)?

  4. Sorry, it didn't occur to me that someone here might not know how to edit the registry.

Part of this would be Softpedia's and other download sites' fault. Listing BM's AG on their sites would make everyone think it's just some kind of conventional, 1-click and install-and-forget software. They should at least warn people about that it is not intended for non-power users.

  5. Bitdefender might be the cause. It run nicely at first but after a while it could slow your computer down.

Try uninstall Bitdefender and see if it helps solve the problem.

Also, not all startup items are shown in Task Manager Startup tab. Maybe tons of services are set to automatic startup, slowing down your boot time.

  6. Not sure about it being the best or not since I'm using MS Office but you could give KingSoft Office free edition a try:

    http://www.ksosoft.com/product/office-free

It's pretty lightweight (about 40MB) and compatible with MS Office. Although the 2013 version has a ribbon interface, you can dig around the net for some old versions featuring classic toolbar (in case your wife has already been familiar with Word Perfect interface).

  7. Would be more useful if you include which version of Aero Glass for Windows 8.1 this configurator works best on and which version is currently installed on the user's system (and maybe display a warning or disable the whole thing if the configurator is outdated), so that if BM were to decide to change some key name people would be less likely to run into problems.

    Thank you bigmuscle, it's work.

Note: i don't want uninstall the AG8, work fine for me, thanks. I just tried understanding the problem to help another users.

(The installer can't set the default options while uninstall the AG8?)

Nope, more details at page 1: http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/163725-aero-glass-for-win8-12/#entry1048234

  9. Hi,

I read on another forum abouth problem after uninstall AG(1.1, 1.2). Win8 won't boot, just flashing the black screen instead login or login screen. I checked this and also i had same problem. Only way was the system restore. Any idea?

Did you make sure to set the current theme back to default before uninstalling? Since AG is gone the system won't accept the custom theme, resulting in a black screen.

If that's the case then you can use any rescue disc to access registry, navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\ThemeManager and set the DllName back to its default value, which is "%SystemRoot%\resources\themes\Aero\Aero.msstyles" (no quote), reboot and voilà.

Anyone else having trouble with this or know which is the problem?

The culprit is most likely UltraUXThemePatcher since it use direct system file patching instead of memory patching like UxStyle. Besides, if you're using AeroGlass, getting any other theme patcher is overkill, just set the DWM:BypassThemeSignature to 1 or better yet, use the CustomThemeResource value.

  10. No, why could this have an influence ?

In fact, after the second reboot, it came up. I have the feeling it had some difficulty to download something from internet even if my connection (WLAN and ADSL) are excellent.

It seems to be disabled on battery and that does not depend on the power profile used. How can i enable aero when running on battery ?

Navitage to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\DWM:DisableGlassOnBattery, change its value to 0 (disabled) and you're all set.

  11. * implemented glass reflection (aero stripes only)

    --> HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\DWM:ColorizationGlassReflectionIntensity (DWORD 0x0 = disabled (default) / other values = enabled)

**** this is good. I thought I accidentaly booted into Windows 7.

Btw I set the value to 30.

  12. I will not include installer at all unless I found a proper way to load glass at Windows start-up. It is still too much dangerous to modify AppInit_DLLs registry value

Pardon me for being blunt, but that's ridiculous.

If you don't do it, then basically you'll just have one of the several guys doing one already just pushing theirs. It seems to me half the problems people have had in this thread have been because you didn't provide an integrated, direct installer, and they've been desperately trying to use one of the other installers. The versions are getting crossed up, or they're tweaking wrong registry entries, or...

The job's not finished without even the simplest of installers, even if all it does besides deposit files is to set and clear one registry entry. It wouldn't be the first installer that required logging off and on again or even a reboot for the installed software to function.

And "dangerous"? How? What's worrying you? Are you making a fundamental differentiation between a user setting a registry value then getting a black screen vs. a user running an installer and getting a black screen? I'm not seeing it.

    -Noel

I don't think that's ridiculous at all, AG in its current state is intended for advanced users (at least for those guys who know how the registry works and how to backup / restore your system just in case something bad happens). Manually apply AG to your system will help you know how to undo it (rather than an automatic installer which might risk leaving something behind). If the user can't handle those basic tasks, they shouldn't be using AG in the first place.

If those people are willing to risk their producing environment and use others' installer, it's their own fault for doing that. Even the original developer thinks it's not safe to use an automatic installer to modify AppInit_DLLS registry value, so why are people trying to make one? If you want to spread the word, it's simple, just write an in-depth tutorial on how to manually apply the AG, warn about the risks involved in using it and encourage the users to report bugs to this topic so BM could take a look into them and better the product, instead of creating additional problems that shouldn't be there in the first place (just how many posts in this thread are off-topic posts with people complaining about installer / tweaker - related problems?)
