I've noticed a bug with Aero Glass when I send an email using Hotmail/Outlook and when the broswer finishes sending the email, the tab will become transparent and looks out of place, and I have provided an image underneath

Thanks, BM. This looks awesome! So what risk is there if I only use appinit_Dlls for this only? If I wake up one morning and my screen is black, can I just turn secure boot back on, and it won't load the glass? I just don't want to take chances with my brand new Surface Pro.

@BigMuscule: Can you produce your AeroGlass in form like a Windows 7-8 Toolkit Addon how can be able/possible to be integrated directly to Install.wim of Windows 8 as pre-installed software, and trial period maybe will be same as Windows = 30 days or however ?
Here you can check list for addons released till now.
No need for a trial period, BigMuscle said that this software will be free. He is just giving donators an advance on the final version, but that doesn't mean it's not freeware.

especially when there's a "neet & sweet" Stardock's solution already available for a lot of time now. Yes, those guys don't have "true glass", but they do have transparency combined with theming "in one easy solution", not to mention the whole "easy of use" thing, which this software doesn't (and isn't going to, from what we heard so far).
But by being free of charge (and activation), BM's solution can escape being Stardock's competition, and be it's own thing.
That's just my opinion, nothing else. This isn't meant to criticize anything, or "tell anybody how to act".
Nope, there is no Stardock solution for Aero Glass. I don't even take it as a concurrency solution, because their software does something different. They provide theming application which is injected into system by very non-standard and undocumented way. It completely replaces default theme service resulting in incompatibility with many applications and provides only some degree of pseudotransparency rendered using GDI. On the other hand, my solution is completely native thing which renders real glass/blur effect using hardware accelerated Direct3D (Direct2D in Win8.1).
Both are totally different things and it is very good that user can choose what he is searching for
Since they are totally different things, then can they be used together? I mean, if I have WindowBlinds, and I use your program, will the transparent windows have a blur behind them?

Someone had to bring up the message box issue again, didn't they? Didn't they?
For anyone wanting to complain about the message box, look at the last 87 times someone complained about it:
1. Complaint posted
2. Another 7-35 posts come up about both why everyone hates the messagebox and why they don't mind it.
3. The dust settles and either
3a. Nothing happens
or
3b. Bigmuscle says "no more public prerelease builds."
People, just get over it. If you really hate the message box, then turn off aero glass. It won't kill you to not have glassy windows. But BigMuscle should release this anytime now, so be patient.

Ok, so the installer will be made available in the Windows 8.1 version? That's great! So I'm guessing that they fixed whatever problem was causing the DWM to freeze?

I will not include installer at all unless I found a proper way to load glass at Windows start-up. It is still too much dangerous to modify AppInit_DLLs registry value so it should be done by advanced user and not by automatic installer.
How does Windowblinds inject itself? It obviously does so via its installer. Does it also use the same Appinit_Dlls key that yours does? There's a way to make it work.

When will the final release?
Like fine wine, good software takes time.
A good installer even more so.
-Noel
Wow, so the installer for this will take even more time than the software? I guess we should be expecting an early-mid February 2014 release, then.

I just simultaneously installed 52 updates (which somehow didn't include the problem update DP had), and everything worked just as it should :-)
I have switched from UltraUXThemePatcher to UxStyle and so far no Black Flashing screens after doing 57 updates..DP
Is UxStyle immune to the black screen/unbootable problems that some people say it has?

Hard to believe that this project has been over six months now, So when BigMuscle feels its ready then i have no issue with that, actually I wouldn't mind if he did a RC5
for more testing..DP
I know. Man, I remember testing the first preview versions. He has gone a long way since then. Thank you BigMuscle for all of your work! I can't wait to see what's in the final version.
If you are open to suggestions for version 2, I wouldn't mind having the "aero reflection" stripes from Windows Vista and 7 along with aero glass, it adds a nice touch. But don't feel pressured, it's just a thought :-)

BigMuscle, I know there already has been some discussion on here on using a $M "digital signature" with your product, I see where other developers like Rafael with UxStyle http://www.winmatrix.com/forums/index.php?/topic/23241-uxstyle-a-better-solution-to-patch-uxthemedll-from-rafael/
used donations to fund this, I for one would donate for that and something you could add to your website.
Anyone else like this idea? If so let's take a vote..Aye or Nay?..DP
Good grief, I hate it when people abbreviate Microsoft as M$, but if you have to do it, can you do it right? What is $M anyway? Softmicro?
And there are other companies besides MS that also like money. Apple was artificially raising ebook prices. The only difference is that Apple doesn't have an "S" in its name.
And I don't want to call it M$ when it provides so many free resources to students.

Aero glass looks really good with the photos on this blog post about the Lumia 1020 set as the desktop background:

Been testing Updates for almost 3 hrs now and here is what i have found so far..
1) Installing KB2846071-x64.msu with Aero Glass enabled = "Flashing Black Screen"!
2} If you Install this update with Aero disabled = No Flashing Black screen.
Lucky for me I set a system restore point this time and after black screen just booted into advance repair options and did system restore..Still have more updates to check but so far the Security update KB2846071 is definitely having a issue with Aero Glass! DP
That's weird. I hope BigMuscle has an explanation. So if this happens to me, will holding CTRL during startup make the flashing black screen go away?
I am making a restore point right now while it still works. Does it work if you reinstall glass after the update? How about if you leave it along and let it download the symbols?

I've noticed that since i last installed some WIndows updates, the aero doesn't work anymore.
I have a windows 8 X86 with the version 094.
Do you you have RC4? It should automatically download the symbols when MS changes something.
Since the chart on the downloads page indicates that version 0.94 is RC3, then he in fact does not have RC4.

I am happy to report that RC4 works perfectly for me (Windows 8.0). Thanks, BigMuscle!
Are you going straight to 1.0 next, or RC5?

What is different about the way 8.1 renders the desktop?

I am probably in the wrong place, but does the new Windowblinds work in Windows 8.1 preview?

Has anyone tried this on Windows 8.1 preview yet?

Look at Posts #2130 and #2131, then here ==> http://www.stardock....ds/features.asp
Stardock just took the easy way out with WB....
What is WB?
Oh, it just stands for WindowBlinds. I thought that it stood for some way to get to the theme service or something, that's why I was confused.

I'm a programmer myself, so I already had such a situation with a program of my own, which hooks keyboard events, and is, therefore, paranoidly regarded as a "Keylogger" by antivirus suite.
It's not paranoid, because your program intercepts keyboard data, which is very suspicious activity. It's fine if you wrote it, but if someone else wrote a program like that and put it on your computer, then they have access to everything you type, including every single password and username to go with it. If you ever buy something online, you enter your bank info, and it could intercept that. That's why government sites offer an on-screen keyboard in the website that you can optionally use if you feel that there might be a keylogger, because then it would be very easy for someone to get your SSN.
So you might want to figure out a different way to get your program to work besides keylogging :-)

Yeah, word's starting to get around...

Yeah.. interesting that "the bloggie man" didn't give BigMuscle any credit, and also showed his own copyright mark at the end of the video.

[OLD] Aero Glass for Win8.1+
in Aero Glass For Windows 8+
Posted
If you use ClassicShell 4 or higher, the "disable taskbar transparency" option does a better job of blurring the taskbar (ironically) than the opaque taskbar application from WinAero.
