my friend 's notebook is Toshiba TECRA S1 . audio is "Intel 82801DB(M) ICH4(-M) - AC'97 Audio Controller [b-1] " He got the portcls.sys BSOD. the audio device id is PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_24C5&subsys_FF101179&Rev_03 I've checked ,there's no this hwid included in DP Sound Pack. so I guess some hwid in some inf causes that BSOD. after research and compare I think maybe it's PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_24C5&CC_0401 or PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_24C5 in these two files S\C\1\CMCOMM.INF and S\R\Alcxwdm.inf then I prepare 4 test to prove my thought. all test begin with the same status. ----------------------------------------------------------------- Test1: Del $OEM$\$1\D\S\C\1\CMCOMM.INF Test2:Del $OEM$\$1\D\S\R\Alcxwdm.inf Test3: Del \R\Alcxwdm.inf . and modify CMCOMM.INF with disable this line %CMI9738.DeviceDesc%=AC97, PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_24C5&CC_0401 Test4: Del these Two files. ---------------------------------------------------------- The result: Test1: BSOD Test2: BSOD Test3: NO BSOD Test4: NO BSOD ---------------------------------------------- and above BAM's HWID also not included in any DP Sound driver . So I confirm when a audio device's ID not included in inf ,but can be matched with compatible id (such PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_24C5&CC_0401 ,then BSOD occur. So these probably r the solution: 1. del the two INF files 2. del Alcxwdm.inf AND edit CMCOMM.INF to disable all HWIDS line with &CC_0401 string suffix. I think 2 is better with more compatible. Anyone to test to support me ?
