Mazin Thanks for all the help but Im still s*** out of luck. I cant get the startup disk done. The other computer Im trying to make a startup disk on has widnows xp with service pack 1 - so the winme_startup_disk.exe doesnt work. The laptop I have says windows xp on it but the error message says Windows 2000 could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: <windows 2000 root>system32\ntoskrnl.exe Please reinstall a copy of the above file I have become destitute at this point as I can't even get help from my computer department here at the school. I am a Marine Corps JROTC Instructor - so the laptop I have is provided by the government and the school I work at only has windows xp. At home I have windows 98. If you can provide any additional help - once again I would appreciate it - if not I will continue to ask around here. Thanks

Im about as green as you can get here so bear with me. What is BartPE and how do I load the NTOSKRNL.exe onto the floppy then copy - where do I copy it to and how do I get there. I know I can hit F12 to boot from the floppy but I dont have the original 2000 disks so what do I need to boot it?

Windows 2000 and there are no service packs

My Dell Laptop will not boot and I dont have the original windows disk as this is a government laptop and I am away from the office. Can a new NTOSKRNL. exe file be downloaded from the interent and installed and if so - how could I do it by getting passed the initial screen that says that windows will not open. I have a dell lattitude 610 with XP. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
