What are you up to Clive, I do pentesting and computer security work for company's. There is always a client and a server so to speak... It is possible to set the server or client in a stealthy manner the first time and then from there on out nothing needs to be installed. If you were going at it from a different angle you could just find something that works with what they already have and not have to install but you would have to execute cmds on their side to at least initiate things, even a small packet crafted properly would get thing going. I would think about it.... and then forget it, but then I always think the worst due to my background. If you could be a lot more specific it would be easier to answer your question.
