  1. I've searched everywhere that was suggested to look. The only place I find it is in the C:\Windows\System32 folder. No where else. One of my friends suggested that I replace the file using the Windows XP cd. Im going to try that.
  2. I have done all of this. Nothing seems to be wrong. Have the latest version of Kaspersky Anti-Virus, checked for viruses, came up clean. Have Spy-Bot and Ad-Aware and scanned with both in Safe-Mode, both came up clean. Checked the msconfig start-up tab for things that look right and all of them are legit.
  3. Lately, it has just been the winlogon.exe process grabbing the system and slowing everything down. Every once in awhile the svchost.exe process would do it, but I havent had any problems with it other then it running more then once.
  4. From the looks of it, I don't have any virus problems. When I run windows in safe mode, the processes never get out-of-whack. Maybe it is a program I am running. It didn't do any of this (other then the scvhost acting up occasionally) before I installed Kaspersky Anti-Virus Personal.
  5. I am having problems with a process in windows called winlogon.exe. My computer will be fine for about 10-20 minutes then the winlogon.exe process will start using most of my CPU fluctuating between 80-100%. Is there anyway that I can fix this? Also, another process called svchost.exe will start using alot of my CPU, but it wont continue using it like winlogon.exe. But my problem with the svchost is that it will have more then 3 svchost.exes running once I start my computer. Is there anyway that I can fix this as well?
  6. I didn't even see the part where you told me to use the network install. I just now saw it. Next time I will be more observant. Thanx though, you are the one who helped me the most.
  7. Wow, I guess the problem with the site didn't actually post the post I made yesterday. Well, I have GREAT news. I went to the link provided by prathapml and ended up downloading SP2 directly to my hard drive and then installing it instead of using Windows Update and it worked. I checked the dxdiag and I now have DirectX 9.0c. I have yet to try to play Sims 2, but either way, I am still happy I have at least 1 problem fixed. I want to thank everyone who helped me with this. I really appreciate it. Thanx again.
  8. Anyone think defragmenting or formatting my computer will help at all?
  9. Yes they did. I did it 4 times just to make sure too.
  10. I updated my drivers, but it still wont work. Stops at the same place everytime. dsound.vxd and dsound.dll
  11. I have tried everything. I will try re-downloading it, but I doubt it will work. I am thinking it has something to do with dsound.dll and the dsound.vxd. I have even tried uninstalling DirectX with DirectX Eradicator, but it didn't help. P.S. Thanx for moving the thread for me. **EDIT** I re-downloaded it, but it still didn't work.
  12. Scanned with AdAware. Deleted over 500 files. Tried installing again. Same thing happened. Still failed and all that .
  13. I will scan to make sure. I know I have some spyware on my computer, so that may be it. I just hate using my scanner because last time I used it, somehow my TCP/IP files got corrupted and had to sit on the phone for 2 hours trying to figure out how to fix it with the tech guys. I will try it though and will get back to you.
  14. I get the message after it fails (which is now 12 green bars into it verifying the download) and I click on installation history. I click Fail in there and it tells me then. Other then that I just get a box that says updates were unsuccessfull. Yes, I am using the express install. I used the custom and it did the same thing. I only made it to it copying the files the first time I tried, then it failed and started doing this crap with the verifying download. **EDIT** It seems to me like my problems are coming from dsound.vxd and dsound.dll. Depending on what I try to install it from (dsound.vxd from the DirectX download and dsound.dll from The Sims 2 DirectX).
  15. I have been trying for well over 3 hours now to install SP2, but I keep getting an error. At first, it couldn't install with Error Code: 80070002, then it would try to verify then fail not even half-way into it with the same error code. I checked it out to see what to do about it, but it said to keep trying. As I said before, I have been trying for over 3 hours now.
