  1. I've been using ad-aware for a long time and notice that the vast majority of the problems seem to be tracking cookies. I've discovered that most of these cookies can be blocked from ever getting on your computer if you are using IE. Do this: 1. Open Tools. 2. Choose 'Internet Options' from the dropdown menu. 3. Select the 'Privacy' tab. 4. Click on the 'Advanced' button. 5. Click on the box beside 'Override automatic cookie handling.' 6. Under 'Third-party Cookies' click the circle beside 'Block.' 7. Click 'Okay.' 8. Click 'Okay' again. Most of the adware companies are third parties, like 'doubleclick.' Doing the above will prevent them from ever getting onto your computer.
  2. Hi All, Some backgroud: I have Win XP Home Addt on one drive and Win XP Pro on another drive that i use for programing etc. I recently upgraded to SP2. Problem: None of my USB ports work anymore under XP Pro--no problem under Home addition. This is what I've tried so far: 1. I checked the BIOS and no problem there, although I didn't expect one since the ports work fine under Home edition. 2. I uninstalled all the USB ports in Device Manager, turned off Windows and restarted letting Windows reinstall. Windows did reinstall, but again the ports showed up with yellow tags in Device Manager, and I should point out that there were no entries for ' USB Root Hub', only 4 entries for 'VIA Rev 5 or Later Universal Host Controller.' 3. Uncertain if the lastest drivers were installed for the USB ports, I copied all the USB drivers from the Home editon and pasted them into the system32 folder of XP Pro. I did notice that several of these pasted drivers were more recenet. How that came to be, I have no idea. I repeated Step 2 but with the same result. Any suggestions?
  3. You might want to try this in case you haven't solved your problem yet. Check the error message that pops up for location it is trying to install fax from and copy it. Go to Start, Run, and enter regedit. Select Find from the dropdown box in the Edit menu and paste in the location you copied. Find any registry keys that look like they are being used to install fax. MAKE SURE you set a restore point before you delete any keys. DON'T blame me if you have to reinstall your entire system if you do delete any keys. On that happy note, good luck getting rid of an annoying problem.
