  1. Ok thanks for the info. Pretty new to transform files, reading up a bit on that now. Used Orca a few years ago for other stuff, I'll download it again, thanks.
  2. Oh god, one of these people. Ok 1) Are you sure? Really? If it's an oem build and I'm using Microsofts own Key Changer (why would they supply such a tool?) to change to legitimate oem keys, what exactly is illegal? Is it illegal to modify the registry? What are you referring to exactly? 2) How do you know what the version I am using was built with? In fact it wasn't built with nLite. 3) What is lazy? I've put a lot of work into this so I'm sure you can understand I'm confused again about what exactly you are talking about. 4) Warez or no warez (and it happens to be no warez in this case) I have already recieved help here.
  3. Can anyone please advise on what my options are for gpo deployment of a firefox or google chrome msi, bearing in mind that it should meet the following requirements: 1) Should be for all users (I know google chrome is a b***h when it comes to this). 2) Should not ask the users any questions upon first running (should not be default browser nor ask to be and should not ask about search providers or importing settings on first run). 3) Should not leave any icons on desktop on first run. I have tried using the google pack installer which google themselves claim that from there, chrome installs for all users, but it just doesn't. There is an msi installer which installs for all users but asks all the questions every time, users will be setting it as default browser which just isn't worth the headache when so many webapps stop working, it also puts icons on the desktop. Firefox msi's that I've seen also ask the questions on first run. If there is an msi building tool that I should be checking out please let me know. I think the main problem I face is getting it to have the post install settings (not default browser, dont ask questions) for all users. Thanks.
  4. Thanks for your help! I ran tweakui and saw what it did to the registry key that x mentioned and I exported that key and edited it so that it used hkey_local_machine instead of hkey_current_user. Then all I had to do was run that reg file on the boxes and it was all done. By the way, in answer to x's question, yes I did do something to make them appear like that. I installed a certain popular cut down edition of xp (my builds all use my legitimate keys though), the person who made it has made lots of changes to various things, this being one of the rare ones that I didn't want for one of my images. Which brings me to my next question... Seems on this build that the start menu for all new logged in users has Administrative Tools on it, both straight on the start menu and in All Programs on the start menu. Administrative tools doesn't appear anywhere in the default users profile and only in the Programs folder in the All Users profile (which it won't let me delete) and as you can guess I don't want end users clicking on anything in admin tools, even though they won't be able to run any of it. Since it's not appearing anywhere, I'm again having trouble getting rid of it on this version of xp. Would anyone know where I can modify the registry to remove Administrative Tools from the start menu and from All Programs in the start menu (on this particular xp version where it seems to be put on all users start menu)? X, could you please explain how you knew exactly what keys TweakUI modified in regards to my hiding the other group in My Computer? I did check TweakUI to see if it could help remove administrative tools from start menu but unfortunately it's not showing in it's list of configurable items. Edit: PS thanks Ponch, that did have the relevant info but I decided on sticking to details view globally.
  5. Ok thanks, I'll try that reg key. Edit: Just had a look in there and don't know what I should do to hide those specific items. I'll try to check what tweakui does to the other key and copy that.
  6. Thanks, I'll try Tweak UI, just hope it works for all users. In regards to the folder view options, these are domain users. Some of them would have previously logged in so will have a profile on the box, some of them would have not logged in yet.
  7. Hello, Could anyone please explain how I can remove the other group category from My Computer for all users (please see image) and all the items in it? Can't find it in registry, at least I'm not sure that the things I've found relate to only this so not safe to delete the entries. Also, does anyone know how I can set the global folder view option to be icons or tiles for all users who log on to the box. Thank you.
