Thought I would just say that I have had exactly the same problem - after installing SP2, my Network Connection icon for my lan has vanished. The connection is still there and is working correctly, and ipconfig is reporting that everything is OK. I've tried everything suggested in Microsoft Knowledge Base Articles 825826, 254631, 273461 and 269019. However, the problem still persists. I'd like to avoid doing a repair install and I've contacted Microsoft to ask for support. I would be interested to know whether your repair install worked. If I have any success, I will try to post it here!
