    Language Removal

As a newcomer to this excellent forum, I just found and tried the Search function and quickly found other posts relating to this Language Removal question. So I am certainly not alone! Specifically "Unable to remove languages" by Member Warriors. His circumstances seem almost identical to mine, and in his thread's last post he asks... "Is it a bug in nLite?". Poster GrofLuigi responds... "I don't know, only Nuhi can answer that". Would Nuhi care to comment, as I am keen to move forward with further software installation to my PC rebuild project, but reluctant to do so until this basic OS slimming issue is satisfactorily answered?

I can't see anything wrong with your process at first (though a bit complicated, I'm not sure driverpacks are to be included after or before nLiting, surely someone will correct f needed). Maybe you removed languages in the same way you attached your ini file: you just think you have. First time poster to this forum! Definitely browsed to the correct .ini file, but did not think to click on the "Attach This File" button! Here's another attempt! I'm pretty certain from my research that DriverPacks needs to be last in the chain, and certainly the full graphics support for the ATI Radeon 7000 card in my old Dell was correctly installed during Windows Setup. While I agree my process is a bit complicated, I have tried numerous other combinations and they led to missing or corrupted files during Setup, whereas this technique worked first time adding or removing everything that I asked for, setting options and tweaks etc correctly. The only odd bit is the failure to take out all Western European languages except English (UK). Norrie Last Session.ini Last Session.ini

    Language Removal

I have just spent a fair bit of time getting to grips with AutoStreamer, RVM Integrator, nLite, Nero 9 Burning ROM and DriverPacks Base. Results seem to have a lot to do with what each app does best and errors during Windows Setup are not uncommon! I have been around the loop so many times that I am dizzy! However, working from a legal Retail Win XP Pro SP2 CD, I now have a slimmed down OS that loads to my old PC and runs perfectly apart from one thing that is minor, but wrong! I slipstreamed the CD to SP3 using AutoStreamer, then used RVMi to add an SP3 UpdatePack (from user_hidden) and about 15 Addons (in some cases they are DeleteAddons), used nLite to optimize the new OS by removing unwanted components, and to set some options and tweaks. I then used DriverPacks Base to add in all drivers, nLite again just to create a .iso image file, and finally Nero to burn this image to DVD. My guide to the nLite bits was the 8-page Icrontic "Slipstreaming Windows XP" guide on the website. At the nLite Removal stage, I referred to Figure 4-1A to remove all Keyboard & Language support, except for my desired selections... Keyboards | UK Keyboard & UK Extended Keyboard, plus Languages | Western Europe and United States | English (United Kingdom). After creating this new disc, Windows Setup proceeded exactly as expected (I did not do an Unattended install) but imagine my surprise when I opened Control Panel | Regional and Language Options | Regional Options tab and discovered that the two pull-down menu fields, while correctly displaying English (UK) and United Kingdom respectively, still show all the other language choices from Afrikaans to Zulu that I had instructed nLite to remove! Interestingly, the Languages tab | Details correctly shows only the English (UK) keyboard as the sole installed service. To investigate, I used the nLite output file as a source to nLite again just to see what further component choices are still available for removal. As expected, only the two UK keyboard entries are listed as candidates to be removed. But Languages still has all the Western Europe and United States options as further removal choices. Should only show English (United Kingdom) by my reckoning. When the (attached) Last Session.ini file is viewed using Notepad, it can be seen that all languages are listed for removal including Western Europe and United States, but excluding my chosen English (UK). In other words, nLite certainly seems to have got the message as to my wishes re Keyboards and Languages, but has failed to prune Languages as expected although it got it it right for Keyboards. Can anyone explain this apparent anomoly? Norrie
