1. I'll take a guess. You have the comments right after the reg-entrys, maybe put them on top? You got them like this: But maybe you should have 'em like: Im not sure if it makes a diffrence tho, better wait for somebody else to take a look.
2. One word: Assembly. I wish I was born in a country where they talk that language. But anywhooo, we can never have enough tools. Any new addition is welcome imo. Im going to take a closer look an that WPI, first that nad later the other ones. Gotta start somewhere...
3. Thanks, been using your apps lately...
4. I found out that testing the CD is vital, or one gets easily lost where the problems are. Boot up some sort of Virtual Machine and everytime you add something new etc. do the test run, program by program. It is much easier to keep track whats happening during the install. Oh yeah, I thought of making unattended in about few days but nooooo, it dont work that way, the more I learn, the more I want to learn here. Seems like the process wont stop anytime soon. This forum is a Gold Mine.
5. Thanks, we got nice ppl here. Links and instructions poppin' all over... If you look at it from a lazy-a**-point-of-view. Oh yeah, I am lazy. So, how does this need a switch or two when runnin' from RunOnceEx ? Like, perhaps: I think there's more to be done about that command, just woke up here about 30min ago and my brain refuse to think, sorry about that, im feeding coffee for it tho... I guess I could read back few pages also....
6. ....waiting.... I was trying to hassle around with the CE version but I found out that I have free MB's on the iSO and I could also RAR the install folder too. Basically it means that I can add stuff to it, which is always cool. More stuff is better, much better.
7. Just did a test run and it seems to work fine for me. (some other however.... ) So, I did this: 1. Renamed metapad to notepad. Moved it to my install dir, which is: $OEM$\$1\install\notepad.exe 2. Then I added these commands to my $OEM$\$1\install\cleanup.cmd REN %windir%\System32\dllcache\notepad.exe notepad.old COPY "%systemdrive%\install\notepad.exe" "%windir%\System32\dllcache\" REN %windir%\System32\notepad.exe notepad.old COPY "%systemdrive%\install\notepad.exe" "%windir%\System32\" REN %windir%\notepad.exe notepad.old COPY "%systemdrive%\install\notepad.exe" "%windir%" My cleanup.cmd is the last thing that runs before final reboot. I think thats about it. Im got XP here so I dont need the other stuff Aaron posted earlier... After the first test run 15min ago I think it was working fine. I use VMware to test but i dont think there should be a problem in real install.
8. I got it as: [unattended] FileSystem = * It will ask what partition to install, also asks about formating, I've been using VM like over 100 time (atleast in this week allready) and I do the quick-format to ntsf everytime. I want to get rid of anything on the partition so there would be no conflicts etc.
9. Whats the CE for? I hope it stands for Big ePeen? Foot long... Well, this is the first time im trying that CE version, unattended silently and all that. I did install it as a test on VM, had to get that .msi file etc. but I doubt my first attemp will work.
10. I got a good link: Clicky clicky ... I am using the 6.0.2—English (Central European) for Windows, 11.8MB
11. Ok, thanks for clearing it out, Im doing everything to cutoff the wfp thing so im not expecting much trouble for that but you never now, it'll only take a one critical update and bam, all the crap is ON again...
12. Im figuring out that at the moment, he he... First, you have to have your metapad.exe in your ..\install directory, then rename metapad to notepad for these things to happen. This is what I think happens during the unattended install: 1. Renaming the original notepad.exe in the windir\sys32\dllcache to notepad.old : (ie. making a backup): REN %windir%\System32\dllcache\notepad.exe notepad.old Copying the your renamed metapad to windir\sys32\dllcache: COPY "%systemdrive%\install\notepad.exe" "%windir%\System32\dllcache 2. Renaming, backing up the original notepad , copying your metapad but now in the windir\sys32\ REN %windir%\System32\notepad.exe notepad.old COPY "%systemdrive%\install\notepad.exe" "%windir%\System32\" 3. Same again but in the windows directory. REN %windir%\notepad.exe notepad.old COPY "%systemdrive%\install\notepad.exe" "%windir%" So, there's 3 copys of them Did i miss something?
13. Thanks, Im gonna give that Metapad a go, just about to make a iSO-RC.45345415614 of my unattended and make a test run on VM again.
14. Aaron, why are you renaming and copying files, like that notepad.exe and others...? Whats the purpose? C'mon, you're hiding teh thruth aren't ya? Share teh wisdom. Seriously, I'd like to know about it.
15. I think the really important thing about Codec Packs is, you have to uninstall the old version if you're updating, and dont install several packs, stick to one and if it doesnt work, uninstall and install another. Same thing with Video card drivers, they do mess up stuff if you keep throwing them on top of each other. Lolly? Lollipop? Popsicle? from dictionary.com: I think it's a silly word, and I do have a foot long lolly. B)
16. Niiiice, been surfing the forums today morning and finally ended up on the Windows Tips 'n' Tweaks section, I was looking for additions for the Right-Click-Menu and I did find it, plus some more, especially the maxxsoft stuff looks interesting. (he he, sounds a bit like in pr0n-biz, howz about Vivid-software?) Anyways, Im gonna give these things a try, very cool stuff. Always wanted to have more stuff on right-click menus, shortcuts to specific folders etc... Basically, I got lotsa shorcuts on the desktop which does slow down Windows as it has to keep refreshing a lot, fill up your desktop and try it, its very sucky indeed. I dont have über-fast-puter and I do need all the available resources if im using some apps, like Cubase SX etc. I usually have a one folder on the desktop with all the shortcuts innit but having access to different folders from right click menu is would be extremely cool. I hope I get all the things working... Just wanted to say Thanks! dudes.
17. I've used this page Black Vipers registry page for making custom registry file for Services. Maybe you want to give it a go. Good Luck.
18. Well, if you want to talk about it a bit more you could try this forum, might have to registrer tho, but thats the place where the guys make them K-Lite codecpacks. (its also the original k-lite forum, i hope i dont get the boot because of the link) I've been using the MegaCodecPack for sometime and its been working ok for me. Atleast that codecpack has one extremely nice side of it, it is free and it doesnt come with any crapware with it. I think the main thing about codecpack is that it has to be pretty "fresh" to be able to play most of the files, new codecs pops up like mushrooms in the rain.
19. Clicky clicky for more info. I could rip with 320kb mp3 with WMP10 if I wanted to, atleast it says so. I have not yet ripped with it so I dont know whats the codec used (I do like LAME tho...) Have to run a test rippin for some cd after I get my next unattended test run in the VMware so I have a "clean" table, no other codecs innit. btw, thanks for the guide of this install-hassle Randy Rhoads, very cool indeed. B) I went to look on the dotnetSP1 thread but it really wasnt as n00b-friendly as this, I guess the old-timers sometimes expect n00s to "know" all the switches / etiquette / finesse etc... yeah, its hard to be a n00b...
20. I was about to remove the Movie Maker also, but it seems that i might need to leave it be.
21. The Help section is well made too: I got a folder shared, mapped a network share, but better not let it to automatically reconnect on start as the the OS is looking for ir and cannot find because VM-Tools are not yet loaded and running, gives an error message about it. Its a hassle if one reboots often.
22. The whole idea about *.xxx to *.xx_ is that they are compressed. Take a look at the makecab command. I dont know does it work or even help anything but I do have a feeling that if one just renames the file to *.xx_ it wont be compressed. Compression gives more free space, im runnin low allready in my UACD, every byte counts, he he. On the other hand, maybe them files are still compressed after one extract them, then everyone on can just disregard this silly post. Im going to try to get wmp10 in the unattended cd later today thought, maybe I'll post back if I find out something usefull. [edited a typo]
23. My CPU isnt on the list, it is AMD XP2600+, runs on 333FSB I got 1GB RAM and a very lame graphic card; GeForce-Ti4200 128mb, which Im going to upgrade the next. Money is teh issue for me, I cannot afford to run after the Best Gear possible, allthought I've been in sites like AliAlienware to drool over on cool PC's, I think paying 5 grands for a PC sounds a bit silly. The PC is the worst to put your money on, it will lose the value incredibly fast. I found out that running about 1 -2 years "behind" the latest Top Gear is so much cheaper. Plus, all the Games and apps got the patches etc. when finally I got the hardware to run them. For example, I have the Doom3 here but I wont be installing it before I get me a new Graphic card, and thats gonna be in about 6 months. Sure, the x800 etc. looks cool but c'mon, take a look at the prize tag and guess how much its going to drop only in 6 months. It is extremely expensive to ride on the latest gear. Another point I'd like to make. When buying gear I can use weeks on planning what hardware Im going to get, reading the reviews etc. I found that checking different hardware forums for extra first-hand opinions from un-biased, regular ppl is really usefull, if there is a problem with a , say, motherboard you should find about it before you buy the thing. Google is pretty cool for finding rants also. I just want to be sure my hardware works. New Gear is more likely to have some Monday-Models or Baby-Diseases, I wont be buying the Latest Graphic Card or MoBo for that reason also, it is better to wait for the second or third generation versions and you'll get a working/stable hardware. I think Totally New Hardware are like Proto Types, the competition is so hard that they have to come up with New Stuff and they'll likely to mess it up in process. laters...
