  1. Thanks for the link MSNwar. I am new around here and thus did not catch up on AaronXP's post. I will give AaronXp's method a shot.
  2. Hello everyone 1.I need to reinstall XP. But I dont want to go through the painful process of installing XP SP1,patches,hotfixes again. Is there a way i can create a custom XP installation CD's which contains all the updates and hence everything is installed automatically, i.e: i dont want to run windows update after installing XP. 2. Along the same lines, is there a way to put all my fav programs on a CD and create a executable which installs everything at the given location. I am sure there must be a way to do it. It would be really cool if someone has done this before and can explain it. thanks

    XP firewall

I think you need to swtich off the XP firewall because then you cannot accept incoming request for transfer from other computers. Ofcourse I am assuming that msn does file transfer on a seperate port which is somehow not accepted by XP firewall. Anyone care to shed more light into this ???

    XP firewall

Hi I am using DSL connection from SBC yahoo and i have the XP firewall enabled. I dont use any other anti-virus software. From time to time, I notice that under network connections->DSL connection->properties(right click) ->Advanced, in the settings tab there are new connection created, such as: msmsgs 1756 (or some random number) !! I never created such service and neither did i enable it. I wonder if anyone has something more to offer on this !! thanks -- yash
  7. hi i connected my laptop(2000) and desktop(XP) using a laplink usb cable. I have created the connection successfully and can see Local Area Connection (2) under My Network Places. Now i want to know how can i transfer files between them. thanks
  8. Ok this is how my 40GB is set up now: 1. a 2 GB primary partition for win 2000 and then the extended partition. Now how do i partition the rest of the disk for RH ?? I have heard something about the 1024 sector rule, ie: that the boot partition for linux needs to be within the first 1024 sectors of the hdd. Is this true ?? Gamehead, the article talks about LILO but i want to use Grub. thanks
  9. Hi If i am at the wrong forum plz forgive me. I am new to this place. I need advice on how to multiboot win2000/XP/redhat 7.2 I did a google search on this and found 10000's of articles each saying something different. It would be nice if somone over here has done what i want to do and can give me advice. My comp is set up in the following way: 1. HDD1(60GB) : I have XP installed on this. This is for my personal use and has all applications and files. NO other OS goes in here as i dont want to mess this up. 2. HDD2(40GB) : I have win 2000 already installed on it. This is basically the drive with which i try out all the stunts I can MULTI BOOT 2000 and xp without any problems I want to install redhat on the 40Gb hdd with win 2000. I would like to know how to configure NTLDR/grub to multi boot 2000/xp/rh ?? What software should i use to multiboot ?? grub or through windows ?? Though many ppl suggested grub, my concern with this suggestion is: if in future i have to remove RH then grub would also be deleted and hence i would not be able to multi-boot 2000/xp. Is this true ??. If it is then i would like to multi boot from windows side so that if i remove RH i can still multi boot 2000/xp without any problems. Thanks for you help guys.
  10. well i had to do when i installed win 2000 after winxp is the following: Under WinXp: 1. Mycomputer(rightclick)->Properties->Advanced->StartUp and Recovery 2. Under System startup -> edit 3. 11. hi i did check all these sites. But no of them have the same model number. So i was wondering if any of you faced the same problem as me and could let me know if different model numbers would be comaptible ?? also my memory right now has a RAS access time of 45ns while the ones in the market all have RAS access time of 40ns. would this make them incompatible ?? thanks
