I also had the same issue. I am going to have to reexamine the 30+ hotfixes to see which ones are connected to IE8 and WMP11. The Guides from http://www.nliteos.com/guides.html need to be updated to reflect newest version of nLite and which hotfixes should not be added to hotfix list.
