VPC uses pre-defined VHD "virtual disks" (EIDE, nothing special). Did you define them in the VMC?

of course! I did the same thing I do every time I install OS through VirtualPC

made dynamic HDD in the wizard, no errors what so ever

vLited Win7 asks for drive drivers at the beginning of installation

it never did that so I figure it out that this is my OS's fault

if Windows7 installation cannot see any drives and ask me for drivers (in VirtualPC) then what could I delete during ISO preparation in vLite that is necessary?

John, i tried Your advice to save Manual Install and Upgrade but it didn't helped, same error.

I found and connected my old CD drive and installed my nLited XP SP2 x64 without any problems so I guess You were right - it was no more than a USB stick install problem.

I'll try to install it anyway from USB if I'll encounter any solution...

[USB boot and txtsetup.sif problem (nLited XP SP2 x64)]

I prepare my USB bootable stick in Windows 7 x64 RC by using Start->cmd and:

1. list disk

2. diskpart

3. select disk X (X=USB drive number)

4. clean

5. create partition primary

6. select partition 1

7. active

8. format fs=fat32 quick

9. assign

10. exit

Then I open UltraISO->Bootable->Write disk image

Write method=USB-HDD+

and Write

I prepated Windows 7 RC USB bootable stick using above instructions and setup started with no problems.

I prepared nLited Windows XP SP2 x64 USB bootable stick the same way and txtsetup.sif corupt/missing problem occurs

I prepared Windows XP USB bootable stick from original CD the same way and txtsetup.sif corupt/missing problem occures.

I wonder if this is a boot sector problem...

I can't use WinSetupFromUSB program v0-2-3 coz it gives me error "grubinst.exe could not make a backup of MBR of disk #1" (yes, it is installed in a path with no spaces and it still does)

any ideas?

EDIT1:

It's not an integrated driver problem. Error occurs when booting clean XP from USB stick.

I prepare my USB bootable stick by using Start->cmd and:

1. Yest, I' m using USB stick.

2. No, I'm not integrating SP, just standalone updates, hotfixes.

3. Yes, I'm doing it under Win 7. Should I do it under XP? Could it be done under XP on virtual machine?

4. By "as soon as the win setup prepares configuration" I mean that computer boot from USB stick, it displays a msg for a tiny second that setup is preparing configuration, and then the "Windows is loading files" screen should appear (black screen with progress bar). It does, but Windows isnt loading files, it just give me this error

5. I did all my work in one nLite session, used clean ISO.

I'll paste a photo of this error when I get back from work.

Rayearth, there is a forum here discussing USB installs. When are you getting the error? Can you post a screen shot of the message? Have you tried your ISO on a virtual system (VMware Server, VirtualBox and VirtualPC are free)? Please attach your winnt.sif, but please obscure your private data such as CD key. And, please attach (not paste) your Last Session.ini. Make sure to always start with a fresh copy of your CD files/folders, do all your work in one nLite session and integrate only one SP. Please report when you have a solution, so others can benefit. Enjoy, John.

as soon as the win setup prepares configuration, the ISO works great on VirtualBox. no such problem. I used the Win XP x64 SP2 + latest updates + AHCI/RAID driver for my ICH10R chipset. I deleted lots of components but as I said before, the nLited OS worked on virtual machine. Problem must leight somewhere elso coz my original untouched XP Home giver the same error.

I attached my winnt.sif but I don't think it will do any good...

I'm getting an error "txtsetup.sif is corrupted or missing, status 18" and it's showing on my nLited and original ISO of Windows XP SP3 x86 and same for Windows XP SP2 x64 (USB Boot).

Running nLite as admin and in XP SP2 compatibility mode does't make it better... :/

any guess what could get wrong?

EDIT:

I red that Windows 7 (my currently used OS) can change partition table without any reason and this could be the cause of this problem.

Probably formatting C: partition could work and then installing Win XP on clean one. (didn't test it)

[files for Realtek audio card to keep]

which files/services/components are required for Realtek HD Audio driver ver. 2.29?

I red that hhctrl.ocx is needed to access config but after driver installation, there isnt any Realtek applet in Control Panel. I can see Realtek HD Audio card in Device Manager but system tells me that there isnt any mixing device installed, so there's no sound.

any guess?

I disabled Event Viewer service in nLite but it is still working by default after Win XP installation.

any suggesions what to do?
