Hi guys, I'm slowly being driven crazy by my new system I've put together. Just quickly: ex58-ud3r-sli; i7-920; 3GB Kingston DDR3 1333; 2 x 500gb samsung spinpoints set at RAID 1; Gigabyte 9800 GT + peripherals and a LG 22Np2B DVD x22 Burner. I've succesfully installed XP with RAID support through Nlite on my system about 4 times, each time reducing the tweaks, but each time It completes I lose my optical drive from explore and system hardware. I know it works because I can boot from the disk to reinstall each time. In nlite I think I have explored almost all obvious options which may affect my optical drive. Since my first attempt I've allowed the windows burning app to stay (even though I never use it.), I've kept the old CD player option, and not touched anything to do with ASPI, SCSI or anything else that I don't know exactly what it does. Each time no luck. I have tried the lost XP -CD/DVD.exe fix and the CDgone.exe fix, and I have manually checked my registry after a clean install to for the [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}] "UpperFilters"=- "LowerFilters"=- parameters as well as [-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Cdr4_2K] [-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Cdralw2k] [-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Cdudf] [-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\UdfReadr] which apparently are a common problem if you uninstall optical drive programs from xp. But nope, my registry doesn't have any of that going on. I've disconnected and reconnected my drive and I've tried installing new hardware with no success. Currently I'm trying to search for xp generic DVD burner drivers to reinstall but there is not much mention of them on the web. I'm getting the impression that they are from Adaptec but I can't find out what they are called, where to download them from or where on the installation disk they are, let alone how to reinstall them. As optical drives are missing from my system list altogether I can't just click the update driver list. I have found out that LG and most other companies don't supply drivers as they rely on Windows generic and that almost everybody who is helping out people with optical drive concerns are quick to say don't bother looking for downloadable drivers as windows takes care of that. Well please nobody say that to me! Just tell me where they are on my installation disk and how to unpack them. Currenlty the drivers im slipstreaming into nlite are listed on my attachment. Could they be playing havoc with my DVD drivers? My order of slipstreaming is Windows installation disk, SP2. The SP3 download from windows. Ryans post SP3 intergration package plus the mentioned drivers. Is there an obvious tweak I am ticking which may cause this problem? And in case anyone is unsure I can't just install windows from my installation disk because I need to integrate the RAID drivers in and I don't have a floppy drive and have no intention of buying an almost obsolete piece of hardware to stare at for 15 years before throwing away. Therefore either I use nlite with RAID or I install Vista (which I'm trying hard to avoid, so far 8 useless CD's and four days of work to avoid.) I don't want to install any programs like nero which I believe come with extra drivers because they are big, bulky and hard to completely remove from the registry and I like clean systems, and don't want extra junk so early after an install, before I can ghost or set a workable restore point, especially as I have no idea if it will work anyway. But I will happilly try installing any compact, non resource hungry program people know about if they come with drivers. Please if there is a short way around this let me know because from creating each nlite disk to installing it on my system is about 2 1/2 hours work and the next one will be disk 9. I am over it!!! I'm now going to go kayaking and after that I'm going to create a installation disk with all the above paragraph stuff included. I'm then not going to change any of the availiable tweaks and options allowed by nlite, to see if all that works. The problem is that I love tweaking XP to how I want windows to run, so If anyone can help, please do. It will save me hours of tweaking after my installation anyway. Please help and thanks in advance. Thanks for reading my essay P.S I am creating my nlite slipsteam disk on my old acer laptop so if anyone would like to read my installation log they will have to tell me where it would be on my new system. Currently I'm running extra installations through USB or WWW onto the new system. P.P.S. Thanks for reading this essay.
