In past 36 hours of running Windows 7 I have had a few very strange problems that I have never experienced. Firstly, the laptop went to "sleep" or appeared to go to sleep. I think it was still awake because the fan was blazing at the time, but the screen went black, and I could not gain control of the system. Not really sure what could cause this to happen, but I don't like it very much. Had to manually shut down for the first time ever on this laptop. Vista ran smoother. Any thoughts?
I've also already gotten a blue screen error, only when closing out bit torrent while doing nothing special. I had just attempted to unzip a file using a free version of winzip, only to realize the program I downloaded was an update instead of the regular program. This caused winzip to error on the extraction, but the blue screen didn't come until seconds after this. It was too quick to read what it said. Anyone else having similar problems?

It all started because the integrated audio did not work, which is why I tried pci sound cards. I just wanted the sound to work. Period. I will disable the on-board sound in bios and see if that works; however, every sound card I installed on top of the integrated audio resulted in no longer having the integrated audio listed in device manager.
My issue is that I know the integrated sound worked previously, so I am wondering if there is something that I am missing?

I have pieced together a system using a board from an HP COMPAQ D530 SFF. System information is listed below. After many attempts with different speakers (that I know are working) and four different sound cards plugged into different PCI slots, I still am unable to get any sound. Drivers installed properly in device manager and, as far as I can tell, everything is properly configured.
The only thing that is going on that I cannot really explain would be a message I received 'power surge on hub port'. This messaged appeared after I had plugged in my flash drive as well as the speaker cable into the back of the PC.
Do I need a stronger power supply? I am a little bit confused since the sound worked in the HP computer before I removed the board from it.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I actually already updated bios on this laptop.
Perhaps I have given too much unnecessary information. Let it just be said that I am nearly certain I have a working hard drive and it is being seen in BIOS presently. My memory is a little fuzzy on the hard drive that I tested being seen or not seen in BIOS. Regardless, I tested it with Salvation so it is good as far as we know. I think I am going to chalk it up to a hardware failure on the board. I really was looking for a deeper explanation as I am fairly sure I have exhausted my options. My co-worker attempted a Windows Vista load onto the hard drive to rule out that it needed drivers integrated, and we received the same result, confirming my suspicions.

Also, I walk away from the laptop for an inordinate amount of time. Oh how I wish it was just taking its time to load up.

I cannot boot into recovery console because, in order to enter that, I have to get past 'setup is starting windows'. The hard drive is installed properly. I am not really sure how old the hard drive is, but I have tried it with three different hard drives, the first and third of which DID show up in BIOS.

Update: I changed the hard drive and now BIOS is seeing it. There are still no settings regarding SATA in BIOS. I think it is converted to IDE since Salvation hard drive diagnostic was able to scan this hard drive, and it does not work on SATA hard drives.

I am working on a Toshiba Satellite m115-s3094 (not sure of the motherboard as the product specifications on Toshiba's website do not denote this). I am using a legitimate copy of Windows XP MCE. I have also tried XP pro and home, all of which froze at 'setup is starting windows'. I am not receiving a blue screen error message, however there is a SATA hard drive in this laptop and no corresponding RAID driver on Toshiba's website.
I went into BIOS to check the settings and there are no settings regarding SATA at all. BUT... I noticed also that BIOS was not seeing a hard drive). I failed to mention this before, but this is the second hard drive I have tried in this laptop. The original hard drive came up with bad sectors after a diagnostic (but it was freezing at 'setup is starting windows' as well).

I am attempting to load Windows XP onto a laptop here at work. After testing the hard drive with Salvation(it passed), the xp installation would ensue.
However, it freezes at 'setup is starting windows' and the cd stops spinning. I changed RAM three or four times with the same result. It appears as though it will not take a 32-bit operating system, implying an board-related video problem, perhaps?
Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

It is a 32-bit, purchased copy version of Windows 7. The only thing that I can think of is that the original drivers weren't quite up to par. I did the updates last night; we will see if any problems resurface.
