  1. yea... makes sense. i have enough toyz to play around with so keeping it with x64 shouldn't be an issue. 3 soundcards?!?! what for??? 1 good one should be all you need, right?
  2. well... i got a tower from CompUSA when they closed. It was built as a server with 2 X 250G hdd's, had a Pentium D m/b, DVD DL Writer, massive case with alot of fans, a useless floppy, but nice over all... problem was people scavenged it and took the memory, video card, and processor?!?! i got the whole thing for like $140?!?! went to NewEgg and got a Pentium D 3.0GHz, GeForce 7300GT, 2G RAM, and a DVDROM for all around $400... so for $500 total I got a nice mo-sheen! ran XP x86 on it first. tried a dual boot openSUSE linux setup and it f'ed it up... lot the XP partition?!? when i couldn't restore it, i upgraded to the x64 version... but now only have one problem... my security camera capture card from Digivue is not supported?!?! Anyone know a good place for 3rd party drivers, if there are any for this thing?!?! It's an EDV-XV425 DVR SYSTEM... worked well in XP x86?!?! ciao!

    Hi

... "have a life"???? windows causes more headaches than linux any day of the week! but, it has its limitations... if you truly want the best of both worlds, run a dual boot system - it is extremely easy to setup. ideally, linux could be the public access part and windows the publishing and gaming part... i can't do 1/2 the web or graphic things i need to in linux, so i have my pc & mac for that... i also can't game in linux, so i have the others for that as well... but i just recently reformatted my laptop and installed xp back on it with Ubuntu as a second o/s... works great, i use linux for the internet and just messing around with the o/s and then windows for everything else. ciao!
  4. ... just installed the x64 version on my basement tower running a Pentium D 3.0GHz... system flies, but I hate the lack of support for drivers. Mainly, I have a Digivue capture card for security cameras. It worked fine on the x86 version, of course because they wrote the drivers for that o/s?!?! But when I asked them, the only other drivers hey had were for Vista?!?! So now I have a smokin' tower... running a dual boot system with XP x64 on one of my 250G hdd's and UBUNTU on the other 250G hdd. If I can't find drivers to work the capture card... or even a new card hat works in x64, I'll have to down grade it... Is x64 that much better on a puter that can run it than the x86 version?!?! ciao!
