Hey. Trying to remove the Help and Support listing from the Start Menu in WinXP. I know I did it before, not in XP. I think it might have been 2K. Any help appreciated.

Personally, I don't use an AV client, and haven't had any problems. The best client is user awareness. Use Firefox, or a browser besides IE. Don't use Outlook Express. Use Thunderbird. Don't download random attachments, unless you specifically ask for it.

Go into the services, and see what you have running. Most of them won
't be required unless you are actually running a server, hence can be disabled.
To go to services: start >settings >control panel >administrative tools >services
Be careful though. Make sure you read what each service is and depenencies before you decided to end it.

I386 contains the setup information for XP.
As for the Iomega drive, you are being alerted that the driver will no longer function after upgrade. A fresh install of XP would be a better choice, but I guess you already bought the upgrade. You may get a lot of issues with compatibility (dri vers, software). Hope that answers the question.

That's awesome though. I should try starting a RH install to see if it is the drive or simply XP. I'm inclined to say XP, but who knows. The drive does function seperately when booting of my old HD.0 -
IDE. Gets to the point where it wants a HDD to install on. Doesn't find any. This is a full install of Corporate Professional. Any thoughts?

I think we can all say Kazaa is a bad program. AOL Instant Messenger (new version) has WildTangent in it. This is a game program, so it should also be listed as people will download it seperately. There are also a number of programs claiming to remove spyware, too many to list. I would do a list of legitimate programs, and that all other should be asked about. At work, only Spybot and AdAware are trusted for the removal of spyware.
To make a full list so far, I would say:
Kazaa
AOL Instant Messenger
WildTangent
Weatherbug
Hotbar (In reality, any browser enhancements) I suppose Google is OK...
Webshots is not spyware from what I have heard. Yes, it does contact the company, only to update the shots...I like to call it lameware. Being on a network, this will cause lag, as there are multiple systems trying to update.
P2P or file sharing programs shouldn't be allowed. (Kazaa, Limewire, Morpheous, EDonkey, Napster, etc)

Just curious... for those of you who use IExplorer, what are your reasons for continuing to use this vs. another browser? After all, almost 100% of virus/spyware is written to attack a vulnerability in IE.

You should run a diagnostic utility on the hard drive. Find out the manufacturer of the drive, and go the their site. Get a spare floppy, put it in the drive, and boot. Follow the instructions. If the drive comes up bad, there is your problem. Otherwise go ahead and repair the installation.

Kinda irritated here. I work as a tech, and I still haven't succesfully installed XP onto my Raptor. I guess it's a matter of the right driver. I went through the disk that came with the MOBO [Gigabyte K8VNXP]. I have oboard SATA disabled. Maybe this is also a driver issue? I am at a loss...

Anyone here put XP64 bit on a SATA drive? The i386 folder seems kind of lacking. no TXTSETUP.SIF that I can see. I wanted to slipstream it but oh well.
