  1. Yes, this might cause a slowdown... If I ever noticed a slowdown I would have stop watching youtube and video. Even, others might not, though. I see your point. I am not intending to download as a maniac, so I limited some downloads to 30 kb/s, but I don't know if that is enough. If we add some upload, it maybe reaches 50 kb/s. I compare it to the ADSL line but I don't really know what is about to be considered as "Too much". Of course, video streaming goes up to over 100 kb/s but if it doesn't cause a slowdown, that is OK. I understand that the administrator takes care that not too much of bandwith is used, but he needs to have it in mind, and needs to make a difference between downloading torrents and movies (which he considers not necessary) and downloading some useful things (like drivers, and programs that can be used to improve system and stuff). So that's the reason why I want to hide my computer. When I want to download something, to not be blocked by application he uses to maintain network or by himself. He, nor his applications can't see what I am downloading and can't know if things I download are "useful" or not. And I want to add one more question... Does playing online games uses too much of bandwith? I don't mean playing simple flash games but playing games like MMORPG or FPS. Well, I am a gamer so I wanna know. Thanks.
  2. Few times I asked him to download something for me but seems he is not willing to do so. Last time he said it was downloading and when I asked him if it was finished, he never really answered. So I realized it is better not to ask him anymore. And when it comes to watching youtube, I can't really do anything about it. Does watching youtube really slows down the network? I never really noticed it. I am about 300 meters away from APN and have a usb wireless and never experienced difficulties in surfing even I know other users download things. Speed ranges from 5.5 Mbps to 48 Mbps. And only when is 5.5 Mbps I experienced a little slow downs, but still could surf normally. I'm wondering if my downloads really have that impact to the network.
  3. Is there any way to make a computer invisible on network? I connect to wireless network in my town and use it to surf the internet. The wireless network is free, and can connect whosoever wants, but internet is provided by the "administrator". (Well, the administrator is just a regular guy who takes care of the network). The problem is, administrator doesn't allow anyone to download anything from the internet which makes surfing difficult. I can't download any driver, any demo game nor watch You Tube without being kicked out. Admin set the "rule" only to surf, but I noticed other people download (for example from rapidshare). So, I am looking for a way to hide my computer to make it invisible to the administrator. I tried net config server command and I am not sure if it really works, because I get kicked out sometimes. Also changed registry key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\LanmanServer\Parameters', and I use xp-AntiSpy application with "Hide computer in network" enabled, but still get kicked out. I tried Zone Alarm firewall but it messes my connection, so I gave it up. Administrator uses mikrotik winbox or webbox server administration and I think he still can see me in these applications. These applications are set to kick out users with high bandwith so I take care to not download too much. Can he see me in these applications? Disclaimer: I am not trying to do anything illegal, not intending to do any harm to the network. If I wanted, I would crush the router. I even found out username and password for internet connection, but I am not using them to get online. I just want to be able to download things from internet or watch video and internet TV sometimes. And I think administrator doesn't have a fair "policy" of using his internet. I understand it is his internet connection so user can only hope he is in a good mood. Thank you.
