Hi, I ran into exactly the same problem before. The drivers available from Dell are completely broken. If you want to be able to install XP in AHCI/SATA mode on an Inspiron 1721, download this driver: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/MIGR-68363.html Then get nLite: http://www.nliteos.com/ Follow the tutorial on the site to build your own Windows XP install CD. You will need to streamline the above driver into your image. Select the x86 XP driver and nLite will give you an option to choose the "Textmode" version of the driver. That's the one you want if you are aiming to slipstream the driver
