Today I recieved an unsolicited email advertising a subscription website offering child porn. I immediately forwarded the mail to the FBI (I don't trust the British police to deal with such matters adequately) then deleted the mail. Was there anything else I should have done?

My Vista iso is 1.07GB after running vLite, and I could save another 220MB if I got rid of the display drivers and wallpaper. Keep in mind that vlite is still in the alpha stage, who knows what else nuhi will enable us to remove. So there is hope of fitting Vista onto a single cd, but no promise.

Mine is 1.07GB, after I removed everythin except video drivers and wallpaper (because of that OOBE problem).

Wow, I've tried Vista in Virtual PC and I hated it. With vLite it's not hard to see why. 200MB of games? 100MB of wallpapers? Thanks nuhi, another excellent program. Will future versions have any options to make the GUI more like XP, for example getting rid of the search box in the explorer pane?

There's no point, the eDonkey client won't work anymore. It flashes up a message not to share copyrighted files and then exits. Switch to another client such as eMule.

Check this File Forums thread CD2DVD conversion for a lot of useful info.

Don't forget SW Republic Commando, I'm only a few levels in but enjoying it. If you want online fun get SW Galaxies, Amazon UK have it for £20 with the 2 expansion packs. Update: I've been playing SW Galaxies for a month now and it really rocks, but I don't have time for a life anymore. so much to do, so little time... ;-)

Constructive Criticism required
amigafan replied to ABEO's topic in Server - Side Help (IIS, Apache, etc.)
Try to avoid repetition in a sentence, eg: "If you do find a better deal elsewhere let us know and we will try our best to provide you with a better deal! " may look better as "If you do find a better deal elsewhere let us know and we will try to beat it." I'm no professor of English, but I'm not sure the exclamation mark is really needed. Other than the usual rules of speeling (deliberate mistoke ;-)) and grammar I think the site is nicely layed out and clear, although I think a horizontal orientation would mean viewers didn't need to scroll down to read the last sentence on the page. Also, the "offer ends" text is in a very small font in my browser and should be made more obvious. Small print should always be very prominent. -
Are you using a wireless mouse? If so does a neighbour have a similar wireless mouse? If you are using a cabled mouse is the cable being pulled behind the desk (by your foot or a tangle of other cables perhaps)? I experienced this phenomena recently with a cabled mouse, but it hasn't happened since I bought a new mouse and reinstalled WinXP. I also use AdAware but I doubt this is to blame. I thought it was nothing serious but now I'm not so sure...

Adding useful entries to rightclick-menu...
amigafan replied to SiMoNsAyS's topic in Windows Tips 'n' Tweaks
I've seen an XP installation that had an option to close CD drive trays from the context menu. Does anyone know how to do this? -
Pure idiocy is TWO WORDS as far as I can tell. Those of us with more tolerance/greater understanding/bigger vocabularies may also suggest naivety, absentmindednesss or carelessness to name but 3. Wow, Brits 3, Aussies 1. Another win. As for a solution, which was what the poor bloke wanted, open the .scr with notepad as it is likely to be a Windows script which you can then try to decipher. If you get garbage in notepad then it is probably an executable made to look like a windows screensaver. If this is the case, check your display properties to make sure it isn't going too run every 10 minutes or however long your screensaver interval is.

Who needs Office 2K3, Photoshop and HalfLife 2 for their favourite OS when you have applications as essential as this. Oh, the joys of being an Amiga fan..

From www.microsoft.com or it may be in your list of recommended updates on Windows Update. -
I'll also wager a thousand pounds that I won't be able to post in MSFN forums once they've read the my previous post.

Like you wouldn't believe... Check out Alanolls posts in EVERY **** THREAD. I may contact the Oxford Dictionary and have the definitions of pedantic and obsessive modified to "see also: MSFN moderators".

The only occurence of the name revolutionOS which I am aware of is Revolution OS, an independent film that "tells the inside story of the hackers who rebelled against the proprietary software model and Microsoft to create GNU/Linux and the Open Source movement." Maybe your friend got his wires crossed, that might explain why you can't find it.

I recently made the mistake of visiting astalavista.box.sk and found several pieces of crap such as "XXX Toolbar" and "PowerScan" had silently installed on my system. Fairly easy to get rid of but intensely annoying all the same. If anyone is still suffering from these I am willing to get re-infected and write up the removal process.

From Windows XP Help files: "To create a mirrored volume using the Windows interface Open Computer Management (Local). In the console tree, click Disk Management. Right-click the unallocated space on one of the dynamic disks on which you want to create the mirrored volume, and then click New Volume. In the New Volume Wizard, click Next, click Mirrored, and then follow the instructions on your screen. Notes: To open Computer Management, click Start, and then click Control Panel. Click Performance and Maintenance, click Administrative Tools, and then double-click Computer Management. You must be logged on as an administrator or a member of the Administrators group in order to complete this procedure. If your computer is connected to a network, network policy settings may also prevent you from completing this procedure. You can create mirrored volumes only on computers running Windows 2000 Server, Windows 2000 Advanced Server, or Windows 2000 Datacenter Server. You need two dynamic disks to create a mirrored volume. You can mirror an existing simple volume. Mirrored volumes are fault tolerant and use RAID-1, which provides redundancy by creating two identical copies of a volume. Mirrored volumes cannot be extended or striped. Both copies (mirrors) of the mirrored volume share the same drive letter." All of those helpfiles are copied to your hard drive for a reason you know

Check this thread to remove WebFolders during installation - MSFN Forum thread
-
My apologies for the incorrect name. That's what happens when you try to post in the middle of a killer hangover (what a fantastic night though ) The silent uninstall is: msiexec /x c:windows\system32\webfldrs.msi /qn The path may need to be modified for your system.
-
Which values need to be changed and what parameters should they have?
-
Here's a little tip I found a while ago. If you never use Web Folders (does anyone?) run webfolders.msi to uninstall it, then delete the install package, which if I remeber correctly resides in the system32 directory. Although I've always done it manually, I believe it can be removed silently.

Does anyone know how to set no paging file by default. My installs are always on machines with 512MB of RAM or more and I never have any need of virtual memory. I've searched through the forums but have not been able to find an answer to this. Thanks in advance, AmigaFan.
