I took a quick look but I know that mySysPrep will do what I need - that is simply update the correct line based on CPU or Model. My issue is that its not working because I get a blue screen with the image using a base of Advanced Configuration & Power Interface (ACPI). If on the laptop in question I try to downgrade the HAL via device manager it lists ACPI as a valid HAL to downgrade too - however upon reboot it blue screens. My issue is aside from the issue I think - why does XP say its a valid HAL for the CPU yet blue screen when it reboots?

I must be doing something basic wrong as I cannot get this to work so I built XP on the Vostro 1300 Dell laptop on which I am having problems. I then tried to change the HAL through device manager. As expected it said the ACPI (Not the UniProcessor) was a valid compatible HAL thus allowed me to change to it. HOWEVER, following the reboot the machine BSOD's with the same error that it does when I try to image it. Can anyone explain why it is doing this? Why does it say its a Valid HAL then not allow to boot up in it?

Hi there Any advice would be really appreciated as I am so close to getting my universal image to work along with BartPE/SysPrep/MySysPrep/Self Imager. I have created a base image on Virtual PC using the standard ACPI HAL (not uni-processor) and want to use MySysPrep to change the HAL upwards when required using mySysPrep. This seems to work on for Uni-Processor machines and so long as I specify the correct HAL by model in the .inf file. However this does not work on the multi-processor machine even when I try to specify in the same way. The mp.inf file states that you must ensure that the multiprocessor files exist - but where should they go? The I386 directory contained in c:\SysPrep contains these files but it doesnt work when I image to a mp machine. I even tried copying the x3 files required to c:\windows\system32 but it still doesnt work once the machine trys to SysPrep on the destination image. I know its the HAL because if I manually change the files the image then boots without blue screening on a multi-processor machine (this is NOT a mass storage issue). If you could give me any insight as to what I am doing wrong I would be SO VERY grateful!!!! So close to getting this to work!!! Cheers, Tim
