  1. Ok no ideas in the community .......... How about simpler...... If one changes the PID and VID device ID in the driver .INF file What else is should be changed for Windows XP-2000 to recognize the driver properly. Ive managed to get windows to see the device as what it is but the drivers are reported as installed (CODE 10 ). Ive changed the PID and VID to what windows reports the device as PID_0000 VID_0000 USB\UNKNOWN This allows me to install the drivers as the file now matches what windows reports it as ^^^^^^^^^^^Above. When the USB Device is pluged in WinXP reports it as unknown untill I reinstall the drivers. Im trying to figure out where and how to put the driver INF file and what else needs to be changed to accomodate the changed PID VID in the .INF file so that windows loads the device proprly.... ANY HELP AT ALL PLEASE......
  2. Ok Ive been fighting a problem for some weeks now....... Im determined at least ...... With angelic like patience......... ........................"Sometimes" Ok I bought a linksys wireless usb WIFI card its WUSB54GSC WirelessG with speed booster. On initial instalation I recvd a Windows-XP error of, Unknown USB Hardware Device. And an error popup stating the device had malfunctioned from windows task bar. I Searched high and low for a solution to this problem... to absolutley no avail. Apparently it is a rather common problem for an aray of USB devices where the system will recognize other hardware devices but not the particular one trying to be installed. Take the same device to a diffrent system and it works fine as well. Its a Microsoft error in the USB identification substrings. Microsoft has no way posted to fix this problem other then reinstall the Operating system "Which May Not Work" or upgrade to Vista. And I have yet to find a device maufacturer with a solution either as they state its a Windows operating system problem and so correctly inform you that it's not an isue with there software and refer you to microsoft....... And As I just Stated Microsoft Support has No real solution... Alas I have found a solution that works to install the proper device drivers for any device that has this issue. But I need to know how to point Windows to the proper driver file that is created to fix this problem. I can manualy install the device drivers once windows loads without a hitch and the hardware is recognized. But as soon as windows is restarted or the device removed the drivers must be reinstalled. I need to know how to get windows to load this device driver at startup so it loads without interaction from a user. I also need it to load in a way that PnP will keep the driver file in its data base of indentification strings so when the device is plugged into the system it will load the drivers as required. The way I read it in Microsofts Knowledge Base, they are seperate folders and both must be modified in order for the driver installation to work correctly. All the driver file names are still identical to the OE names just some of the information in the driver .INF file has been changed. So manually entering a registry key on where to direct Windows to the files and when to load the drivers should be all I need. Once I can get this fixed to load properly I will post my work around to this error .... But not untill then as whats the point of giving half the informaton. I think it would do more harm then good that way. And this fix works for any unknown hardware device on instalation... Just need to know what REG KEYS to enter to finish the fix.... The file name im working with is WUSB54GSC.INF Any help would be greatly Apprecited by me and I belive many others by the amount of hits in google with this issue........ So long as it works out the way Im thinking it should.. Crossed fingers and toes...
