  1. I want to edit/modify Setup.exe of Original XP CD, how do I do this?

P.S. I have tried using resource hacker. But, I don't know how to edit the stirings for Setup.exe file, so that it can match how I wanted to match to my own.

I was after doing the same thing myself only to find as much as you edit the setup.exe with resource hacker

you are still very limited to what you can change..

one you have all your images replaced, your still unable to change the background color...

I was told about this page and i'm now using StartCD.exe which can be customized alot better

so i would suggest using the StartCD.exe this is very simple to edit..

The main config file can be edited with notepad and has alot more flexibility..

Explain alittle more what you would like to change about the setup.exe :thumbup

    Peace ~~

  2. Well i seem to be missing three tabs from System Properties.. System Restore, Automatic Updates and the Remote tab

i also can not access Device Manager..

I did also make changes to the Explorer.exe as well as Shell32.dll,

But my main problem is not having the Originals to Replace them, i search all over but can only find

    downloads for 32bit files..

Lets this be a lesson to anyone Run VMware i know im going to from now on.. LMAO

always seem to learn the hard way, least i still have fuctionality ..

  4. Oh right so its like a Shortcut thats why when i type .. into RUN it takes me to

C:\Documents and Settings\%USER% because this is the parent folder of C:\Documents and Settings\%USER%Desktop

What kinda of Explorer replacements are available ?? Can these be build into the windows untented setup ??..

    thanx for the Info

  5. Hello once again,

Cant seem to get my head round this one, its sending me  ..

After making changes to my Shell32.dll files in my Windows XP Professional x64 Edition BUILD 5.2.3790.1830

with Restorator 2007 to replace the AVI's and the icons,

I seem to have messed up the System Properties tabs -->> Shell32.dll Problems.jpg

    Now i know with windows X64 i had to replace both sets of Shell32.dll [ system32 ] + [sysWOW64 ]

I done this to both Shell32.dll files saved them booted in safe mode and used Task Manager to kill the explorer.exe process and then used CMD to replace the files..

Now im stuck with this issue and in the panic seemed to have deleted both original BACKUPS :realmad:

For now i guess i can live with it for a while, But does anyone know how i can get originals back ??

Can i extract them from my original MS CD ? ..

    Thanx for you time..

  6. I must be missing something here i enter CMD cd to C:\ enter command DIR but a still don't see any such

directory.. But when i use RUN and Enter . it take me to C:\Documents and Settings\%USER%

And .. Takes me to C:\Documents and Settings is this a feature is Windows XP x64 ??

    :hello:

  7. Exactly what directory's do you mean ?? maybe these directory's have since been removed as you say the OS was in Beta form ??

has anyone else heard of the so called DOT . directory's ?? i always like to know what Microsoft is hiding please enlighten us..

  8. :thumbup Hello, :thumbup

Can anyone help me me out ???, i've been making some changes to my Windows XP Pro x64 CD

using your site as my main source of information, So far ive been able to get everything setup as

i wish, i just wonder is it possable to change the background color of the main SETUP.exe ???.

I can change the BITMAPS with Restorator 2007, but even with all the BITMAPS replaced it still leaves

me with a rather patchwork looking GUI.. is there any way in which to change this Horrid Microsoft Blue

    that haunts me so..

    Thanx for you time :hello:
