I'll double checked with Altiris support, since the boot WinPE CD is created through one of their utilities, and see if the boot WinPE cd is loaded into a ram disk. I will also check the help file as well. Thanks Jolt2010 Checked with support and it does load into a ram disk as built from their Altiris Boot CD Creator.

I'm not sure, how can I check to see if PE is in a ram drive? Is there a specific config file that I can check? Is PE2 the WAIK? If it is, I can't use PE2 because Altiris does not support it in the curret version of the Deploymet server that I use, ver 6.5. They plan to support WAIK in ver 7 of their product. Also the memory would be an issue, we are a school district ad some of the older PCs have only 128MB of RAM. We are buying new computers, but unfortunately we have to support allot of older technology. Thanks Jolt2010

I am running WinPE 2005, I believe it is ver 1.2. The Altiris program for imaging RDEPLOY runs from a mapped network drive "F:", I have placed the psshuteject.exe in the root of F: drive and it is in the path and the CD has the athentication credentials for the server's local admin account. Also, the CD drive letter in WinPE are E: (for the drive that does eject) and X: (for the drive that does not eject and has the WinPE boot CD). Thanks Jolt2010

Hello everyone, First of all I'd like to let everyone know that I am new to this site as well as working with WinPE. I have been reading allot on this site for the past two days and I am trying out some of the utilities that I've read about. Here is my situation; I work for a school district in So Cal, and yes we are near some of the fires. We use Altiris Deployment Solution for imaging, up to this point we have been relying on DOS boot CDs to boot our computers up and image them. We recently stated purchasing HP computers and the HP dc7800 will not boot up properly from a DOS CD, Altiris support recommended that we try using WinPE for our boot CD. With our DOS CDs we would boot up the computer, start the imaging process, manually eject the CD, walk away, and let Altiris do its thing. This would include renaming the computer and joining it to the domain. This is nice because we can start around 200 computers imaging on Friday night and by Monday morning the imaging is complete and all the computers are ready to go when staff and student get there around 7:00am. I have been able to create a WinPE boot CD and I have the NIC drivers loading properly, I even have our basic menu running that specifies each sites drive mapping. My issues at this point is that after the imaging process has been started we cannot manually remove the CD from the computer , which we could previously do with DOS boot CDs. I am using peshuteject and I am having an issue with it, I have tried using the "peshuteject /reboot /eject" form a batch file, but the CD-ROM with the WinPE boot CD will not eject. The other CD-ROM ejects just fine. The issue here is that the WinPE boot CD does not eject, but the computer does reboot. When it reboot it just loads the WinPE boot CD again, instead of starting the Altiris processes. So my question is "What am I doing wrong or what can I do to get the WinPE CD to eject properly?" I help administer a network for a school district in So Cal and we use Altiris, we use DOS based boot CDs and now we are starting to use WinPE boot CDs and that I why I am here. looking forward to learning more about WinPE and hopefully I can add some feedback and help others out as well.
