  1. Hi,

how can I set a standard logon picture if I applied

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System]

    "DontDisplayLastUserName"=dword:00000001

Currently my logon screen shows a blank picture with picture frame. But as I saw here* a customized standard picture could be possible as well.

Does anybody know how this can be done?

    Edit: *Ups, I see the "Switch User" Button... :}

  2. Well you don't really want to stop Activation from happening. If you do not activate, you are going to have some serious problems in the long run.

Yep, at this point I just wanted to make clear that I'm not thinking about any paranoid settings. ;)

Most of these things are not default, ie they do not go online unless you tell them too. You may be able to control a lot of it with Local Security Policy by creating a template and then importing it during install.

Any references where I can find some information about these policies and how to import them during install?

  3. Hi!

I'm just switching von Windows XP x64 to Windows 7 x64 and think about to create a DVD image for unattended installation which already contains some basic settings. In this context this article about "30+ Windows 7 Phone Home Features" came to my attention. And yes, I know, far from all features on this list are something to care about. But it gives a good idea of what information Windows 7 is doing online in background.

My question is which of these features can be disabled unattended (completely) and how - and again, I dont't think about "Activation" (1) - it's something like the "Installation Improvement Program" (11), "Windows Anytime Upgrade" (19) or to be asked whether to use the "Windows File Association Service" (22).

Because I'm still using Windows XP x64 I can't try tools like 7Customizer etc. But any advice or instruction this way is welcome as well.

    Thanks in advance! :)

  4. I have tried both versions 7 and 8 on my Win XP SP3 desktop. I would like to send some reports for you:

    1.Nero 7 Lite:

While installing the pop-up window "Nero ProductSetup - Enter New Serial Number" appeared for a short moment then disappeared.

    2.Nero 8 Lite:

I once filled my serial number in the installing process but when I open Nero Burning ROM the "Welcome to Nero" window still pop-ups and asks me to enter serial number.

I just installed Nero Lite 7.11.10.0-1.17.2.2. And after entering my serial number in the installing process, I had to enter it in the Nero Product Setup once again.

  5. so, i found a little patcher on the web, used it, and behold!!!

it works great, no driversigning problems, no nothing :D

    Yes, it works. :)

And Vista users may read here:

"Probably sometime, after updating Windows or SP installation on a desktop will appear watermarks "Test mode". They can appear as in Vista SP1 there is an obligatory check of the signature of drivers, and the file tcpip.sys sign with test signature after patching. Most likely, to make it disappear will be necessary simply once again patch tcpip.sys."

  6. This is a HUGE project to maintain on my own. In fact, I'm stepping aside . . .

Therefore I'm posting a tutorial for those with some MSI editting skills to be able to keep up releases of thier own language(s).

Hi Shark007, thank you very much for this tutorial! Take this step aside... and there will always be a place where you can just walk in and meet friends.

  7. I can't decide what i want more atm, the option to unlock the admin account in vista with vlite, or this..Think the admin unlock would be sweater as i can 'live' with the limit per se.

Perhaps nuhi has a heart for both... :hello:

  8. Same here! Please add this function to vLite, it's so annoying to have to press F8 at every boot of Vista SP1 to disable driver signature :(

To automate the F8 process you can use the ReadyDriver Plus v1.1 (works on both x64 and x86).

Hm, is a patched tcpip.sys for Vista x64 SP1 out there anyway?

And yes, I would be very pleased to see this feature - patched tcpip.sys for Vista x86/x64 SP1 without pressing F8 - in vLite, too! :hello:

  9. Hello Acheron,

first of all many thanx for your great work! :) I just installed your Nero 8.1.1.3 Lite (like the versions before) and it works great for me! :)

I just want to ask you how difficult would it be to build a Nero Lite 8 "Special Edition" or Nero Lite 8 "Add-on" with Nero Recode?

Or do you (or anyone) know how I could add Nero Recode (only) to an Nero Lite installation?

    Many thanx! :)

  10. Hi Arie! :)

    [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{5197646C-00EA-4307-A067-61319EBBE499}\DefaultIcon]
    @="%CommonProgramFiles%\\LightScribe\\LightScribeControlPanel.exe"

    [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{5197646C-00EA-4307-A067-61319EBBE499}\Shell\Open\Command]
    @="%CommonProgramFiles%\\LightScribe\\LightScribeControlPanel.exe"

I think you have to use REG_EXPAND_SZ Registry Values here.

    Best regards,

    Oisin
