  1. I finnaly converted my vbs to the wsf format using the ztiutilities library.
  2. I hope i'm in the good forum. I'm trying to execute a script with DeploymentWorkbench. HalDetect.vbs I copied the vbs into the deployment share\script\ Added a "Run command Line" in the postinstall section of the task sequence with "wsript.exe %scriptroot%\haldetect.vbs" Updated the deployment Is there something I missed and are vbs scripts able to run in Microsoft Deployment TS
  3. We have a running SMS server pushing 50+ Applications to pedagogical computers. I'm not in charge of the SMS server. You can incorporate Drivers and Software Utilities for Laptops with it? How long do you think it would take to set this? And we are removing Novell, to go with AD. We don't plan to update it.
  4. Here is the situation. Sorry for the typos , i'm french canadian O_o I'm working in education domain. I'm still not very experienced ( been working for 1 year now and 23 years old ) We have over 6000 computers in 70 different buildings. We are in the process of removing Novell system to implement AD (Active Directory). Most High school pedagogical computers are beeing imaged with 2 different images (Compaq and IBM Desktops) With an almost fresh Updated WinXP SP2 Installation + a few Programs (SMS Client, McAfee, PolicyMaker) Everything is working fine as we use ZenImaging to push those images and Multicast bigger Labs. Base images are working on 95% of our pedagogical park. (Desktops) I was asked to build and experiment RIS and WDS so we can get rid , eventually , of the ZEN imaging Server. I've come to the conclusion that wds is more Vista Oriented and we decided to stay with WINXP for a few years. I was Able to build a fully fonctionnal RIS server and to incorporate drivers into it. I builded an unattended installation where the technician can simply start the image and the computer logs automaticly with a local admin user on the domain to be able to push SMS scripts and Incorporate a few tweak to WMP and Framework installation. I was able to incorporate about 6-9 different computers drivers into the installation. The problem is: Senior techs are working to do the administrative computers. There are a LOT of different computers and a lot of them are notebooks. I can tell you there are more than 40 diff. computers and notebooks to integrate into the ris installation. Driver integration for notebooks of Different brands, models and devices. I can't see the end to the integration of drivers , and even less the installation of the 60-80 different utilities that are used on each of the notebooks for Power Management, Keyboards shortcut, etc... It Goes from old PII compaq Notebooks with 128Ram to Last IBM notebooks with 2gig ram. So WINPE and his 380+ MB is kind of hard to use and very situationnal On the other side. techs have been working with different images for each model of notebook , integrating softwares, and drivers for each of them. Making over 30 or 40 images to keep up-to-date with evrything. Either way i see a LOT of work as we have to rebuild each image with Microsoft System instead of Novell. The senior techs are new to AD envirronement , and even more to RIS and WDS ( Actually, I built it mostly alone with the help of these forums and the Internet). I talk about it with them and they seem a bit clueless about how to proceed. I'm seeking advice on how i could bring the best method for deploying our new system to all these diff computers. MOstly NoteBooks (IBM-Toshiba-Compaq) A noob tech trying to find a solution for his Senior techs
  5. My organization has 2 images that can fit to over 5000 computers I would like to be able to choose the Organization Unit in which i want my computer to go with sysprep. So that the technician doesnt have to manually move the objet with the AD console. The OU would be different for each computer. Pretty much like RIS, where you can customize where to create ur computer in your AD. I didn't find anything in sysprep that could do the same. Btw, the organization is using Zenwork Imaging.
  6. I just got a Compaq Evo N160 for testing an RIS image. It doesnt seem to have a PxE integrated into it since there is no Options for it in the BIOS. So I Created a Boot Floppy Disk then copied it on a Bootable CD. I reboot the Computer and when the disk runs, it shows that the network card is not supported by the boot cd adapter list. "For assistance, contact your system administrator" <---- Hate this haha Is there another way to boot my laptop with PxE so I can push the image. I have a basic RIS server (Not wds or anything)
  7. By default, Windows allows Users to create files and Folders on C drive. Is there a way to remove this during an unattended installation So that Users stays only with Read and execute Permissions
  8. Hello, 1st i'd like to say i'm new to this forum and that I learned a lot from here. Here is my situation. I installed a Ris server on my network, i was able to push an unattended Windows XP installation on 2 different machines with their own drivers. Was able to push an SMS installation with an auto-logon and GuiRunOnce. Evrything was working fine! I made backups of $oem and i386 folders for all new steps I was doing to improve my installation. I just recently used DriversPacks to copy about 800MB of drivers into my oem folder to see if i could deploy my OS on differents computers. I copied all network drivers into i386 and restarted the RIS service. I tried to push an OS on a Compaq P600 and i got an error with a network driver that couldnt be copied at the RIS start. el90xbc5.sys. Said it was corrupted, so Deleted it. I restarted the computer, got trought the initial installation. When the installation tried to format the partition , it pops a Error saying that my HD could be damaged or to look if it is a SCSI. (Which isnt). So I quickly tried to bring back my initial setting with two different backups, and the same error appears, i tried with another computer (new hd) IBM netvista. Same error! I tried with normal XP CD, and it worked. So, i'm guessing , its not my HD, not my i386, not my template, not my $oem$. What could cause this error. I'm posting here before trying to actually reinstall my RIS. Help a new technician to keep his job! If u need any infos , just ask EDIT: I Pushed a Flat Image from the CD , and its working , so ... yea my backups would be broken? any idea how i could fix them ? EDIT: I found out that ,somehow, my partitions got corrupted and i couldnt load images on them. For now my problem is fixed , but i still don't know what could have corrupted my partition.
