hi just a quick question about the boot ini..
in the past when i removed an OS from my comp, win98 or xp64 beta1 etc...i just deleted the line from the boot ini and the corresponding files but when i installed the latest longhhorn it installed a new boot file launched by [boot loader]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(3)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows Longhorn" /NOEXECUTE=OPTIN /FASTDETECT /USENEWLOADER /DETECTHAL
so that it says boot longhorn or boot legacy os before longhorn that let me access my older boot ini
could i just delete the boot.ini line and the files from longhorn like before?
example FROM THIS
[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(3)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(3)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows Longhorn" /NOEXECUTE=OPTIN /FASTDETECT /USENEWLOADER /DETECTHAL
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professionnel" /NOEXECUTE=OPTIN /FASTDETECT
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(1)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Windows XP Professional x64 Edition" /NOEXECUTE=OPTIN /FASTDETECT
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(3)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows Longhorn" /FASTDETECT
TO THIS ?
[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professionnel" /NOEXECUTE=OPTIN /FASTDETECT
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(1)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Windows XP Professional x64 Edition" /NOEXECUTE=OPTIN /FASTDETECT
NB: xp pro was the first OS installed on the system so it uses it's own ini...
thanks for your help

hi,
once again i come here to search help in all you wisdom
i have a problem i never had
don't ask me what i have done lately that could have done that, cause i don't remember doing anything recently...or installing appart from pshop cs2
i can't install or uninstall any .msi setup file
i can't access and launch any control panel icons, i see my panel, i can see and open network or any subfolders but no panel will open, so, no add remove works, i can't accees my services even launching with command line services.msc
i can't install msi setup either...
i can't launch diskeeper...
NB: i created another account, everything works fine...on that account
is there any dependency i could have deleted or destroyed
do you think of anyway to restore that problem
and yes i'm an admin on that system (always worked in the past)

i found a solution but i have to use XP lite wich is shareware
i launch it, in the program list , games appear as installed, so i uncheck the box as i wanted to uninstall, then, i relaunch the app, and i check the game box, it will ask for my original winxp cd and reinstall the games..
do you know any other way?
if not, no problem that seems to work
thanks again

if you are talking about modifying the sysoc.inf, after installing the version WITHOUT pinball in automatic install, changing this line or any other in the sysoc.inf will make this app appear
it's like this app has never been available on windows xp cd...
the problem is that windows is installed, don't want to reinstall and this app or any other is not, but i can't seem to install it from add remove components from within xp interface nor modifying sysoc.inf
anyway thanks for the answer

hi,
here is my problem, i'm using a unatended intallation cd sp2 slipstreamed
and many improvements on a computer, but now i have a problem, i woud like to add components (in fact: games on the net, pinball etc...)
when i choose to install additional components, the list doens't show me the games in accessories, i tried to edit the sysoc.inf file (gives me an error whe launching add components) and i also tried to add components via the cd of a official winxp cd but it seems to launch the local setup , so no more options
is there a way i can get theses apps back without reinstalling xp?
thanks

hi, hope my subject was clear,
i made myself a nice clean installation following many guides in here , after searching and searching again i managed to do what i wanted , so i installed my xp on few computers...
so it's winxp pro sp2 (did the same with sp1)
and when i want to browse netwtwork and computers on network , a dialog box pops up and asks for a pass to log on to the computer...
i cancel and can't of course access network , if i don't put anything of course it asks for more
i didn't change anything related to user rights or anything in winnt.sif or registry tweaks...or command
anyone had this problem in the past?
i could post my file for a check if needed...
thanks for your time anyway..

glad i'll help for once eheh
go to this folder or similar on your computer
X:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\QuickTime
there should be 2 files, copy them in your quicktime folder and it will install silently and with registration etc..
problem there is still the taskbar icon, sorry for that..

hi everybody,
maybe i'm stupid ( that's no question so no need for an answer thanks)
i didn't find any answers to that problem in the forum but as it's getting quite big ...
so myu problem is that i realized an unattended cd of xp pro , everything is ok except i can't brose shared files on the network and people can't reach mine, it always asks for a user/pass combo
i already found the solution for a NEW cd using the secsetup dll but on the already done installation i can't find a way to give rights to anonymous browsing of shared files
anybody?
thanks anyway and in advance..

/usenewloader question
in Windows XP
Posted
well i couldn't say it's about longhorn, it's about bootloader, it just appears that longhorn is one of the operating system installed
i finaly used a command line found on another website...
i used a command line with an exe from longhorn depository called
fixntfs.exe
to use xp bootloader to boot all systems and bypass the new one...
i just want to be sure that the os on main partition , also my xp pro (32bits) will still boot if i remove longhorn and x64 files on other harddisks...
i'll find a solution..........one day
