  1. Just thought I would let everyone know I found the solution to this, and I feel a little silly because when you think about it, it is actually quite obvious. You go to add/remove programs, select Microsoft SQL Server 2005 and click remove. After a few processing screens, a window pops up asking what instances or components you want to remove. You can select the Express instance here, and it will remove just the one instance and any instance you do not select, will not be affected. Cheers. df
  2. I have a computer that has SQL 2005 standard on it. I was installing an application that uses SQL 2005 Express, and it installed the SQLExpress instance automatically. I do not, however, want to run SQLExpress on this box. I go into add/remove programs, and I do not see the separate instances of the program. How do I remove SQL 2005 Express without affecting my regular instance of SQL? Thanks in advance. DF
  3. I am running Outlook 2007, and I used to be able to actively search my mailbox. I can no longer do this. If I search for something that I know is in my mailbox, it comes up, "no matches found for 'item'". Any thoughts? Thanks in advance.
  4. I have this project that I am working on, and the only type of image file I can download is a .bin file. I have searched the entire internet for a program that will allow me to view the contents of this file, but I have been most unsuccessful. Does anyone know how I can view and unpack the contents of a .bin file? Thanks.
  5. Hi all. I have a 2GB SanDisk Cruzer Micro flash drive, and I was curious if there is a way to install Sony's Micro Vault Virtual Expander compression program on this flash drive. If not, is there another compression software that I can install that is able to compress 8GB of data onto a 2GB drive? Thanks.
  6. I have my laptop dual-booted between Windows XP Pro and Slackware right now. I had to format my Windows partition and for the time being reinstalled XP Pro 32-bit. Now my Linux side has a total of three partions. So including my Windows partition, there are four of them. I inserted my XP Pro disc and deleted the windows partition. When I went to create it again, it came up with an error saying that I had reached the limit of partitions on the hard drive allowed by Windows. My question is this: When I go to install XP Pro x64-bit, am I going to have this same issue? Will the installer only allow up to three partitions on the system? Thanks.
  7. But would Norton only block the connection to the database one time? I mean, if the computer is turned on, and left alone for a half hour, the tax program connects to the database fine. But if the user tries to run the tax program within 10 minutes of booting up the computer, then the connection to the database times out. What would cause Norton to block the connection only within the first 10 minutes of the machine being turned on?
  8. Hey all. I have posted a few times already, but I am new to these forums. I am currently a Software Support Specialist for a company in upstate NY. I know Windows 9x and XP like the back of my hand, and am working my way through Vista. I also have extensive experience in working with Linux, specifically Fedora Core, Red Hat, and Slackware. I hope to learn a lot from the forums and contribute a lot. Thanks!
  9. Thank you for your reply. The database is on the same PC. There is only one user in the office, so there is no need for a server. So the latest version of Norton's product does not conflict with SQL Server? This PC is running Norton Internet Security 2006 version 10.0.3.3. The decision to upgrade to the latest version of Norton is not up to me. You say that Norton is poison to SQL Server; what exactly do you mean by this? If Norton cannot be updated, is it possible that in the future, Norton could cause problems to the data? Could Norton's firewall be causing this?
  10. I am running a tax management software that uses SQL Server 2005 for its databases. I am erratically getting this error when I try to run the program: OLE IDispatch exception code 0 from Microsoft SQL Native Client TCP Provider: Timeout Error [258]. I am also seeing this error erratically as well: OLE IDispatch exception code 0 from Microsoft SQL Native Client: Shared Memory Provider: Timeout error [258]. When I click the ignore button for either of these errors, I see this error: From ABODB Recordset: The connection cannot be used to perform this operation. It is either closed or invalid in this context. After clicking the ignore button again, the error goes away and the tax program crashes. After all this, when I try to load the program, it loads fine. I do not, however, get these errors everytime I try to load the program. Some days I never see an error, other days, I get the error whenever I leave the computer for longer than an hour. I thought that maybe it was because I was not giving enough time for SQL server to start before running the program, but again, if I leave the computer for too long, the error may or may not happen. The only other thing I can think of is that it is Norton Anti-Virus conflicting with SQL Browser at startup when Norton checks for updates. Is this a possibility, or am I way off base here? Thanks.

    MDAC 2.8

I have a process monitor, but it is not from sysinternals. Vista has a built in process monitor?

    MDAC 2.8

I am trying to install an application for my business on my Vista Business machine, and it is saying that it requires the MDAC 2.8. I download the installer for MDAC 2.8, and it does nothing. I looked online, and saw that Vista comes with WDAC which is supposed to emulate MDAC, but obviously, it is not working. What can I do?
  13. is the registry in Vista laid out the same as the registry in XP? If not, what is different about the registries?
  14. Thank you. I really appreciate it.
  15. I tried running the Windows Install Cleanup Utility, and it gives me the same error. Another installation is in progress, and it has to cancel. Where could I get a good process monitor?
  16. At this point i would think that the installation Media is bad, there is a slight chance the copy you got was not good, if you can try with new egg and see if you can get a replacement, (not sure how long ago you got it) And if new egg wont do anything for you, I would just go out and get a retail copy.
  17. When I run the installer again to try and remove it, I get the same error. I already run SQL Express, I was trying to test an older version of our software that needed MSDE.
  18. When you say you have the OEM version, what do you mean? It came with a computer? Or you bought it from a retail location? To my understanding, OEM comes with a computer, and if you try to install it on another machine, you will get an error because of driver issues, and the like. If this is the case, I would go out and buy the OS from a retail location.
  19. I installed MSDE, and it doesn't work. So I went to uninstall it, and I get the following error: "Another program is being installed. Please wait for that installation to complete, and then try installing this software again." I am not running any installer, I have rebooted, shutdown and restarted... nothing I do will allow me to uninstall this program. From what I could find on google, it could be a registry key not getting cleared out? Does anyone have any ideas?
  20. Back in Dec of 2006 this was discussed here: Vista Permissions and trusted installer!, VPN bluscreen LLXX said there is a way to get the SID numbers to match between account types. I could not find any solution to this. I need my local admin account to have the same permissions as the SYSTEM account. Does anyone know how I can do this? Thanks in advance.
