I'm using Windows Vista Business in a dual boot configuration with XP Pro. After some intial teething problems I have Vista running smoothly and I'm very happy with it. There is only one thing that is souring the experience - the Intellipoint 6.1 mouse software. I need to use Intellipoint to enable double click functionality on my scroll wheel button. The software has a bug that is driving me nuts. I've spent 2 long fruitless sessions on the phone to MS tech support and am now feeling frustrated and angry. The problem that I'm about to describe is well documented in several forums that I have read and appears to have been a problem for quite some time. It manifests in Windows XP as well but I will confine this description to Vista. The problem does not show itself if Aero is being used, but is definitely there when using the Basic or Standard color schemes. The problem manifests as a single annoying screen flicker. When I open my Outlook inbox, after a few seconds the screen will give one flicker. I am an Access developer and the problem also manifests in the Access 2003 "Relationships" window. When the window is opened, after several seconds all displayed tables will give a single flicker. The same flicker occurs when a relationship between 2 tables is created or deleted. From anecdotal evidence given on other forums, the flicker problem is manifesting in many other apps as well. The problem is definitely being caused by Intellipoint 6.1. If its process is killed in Task Manager the problem goes away. The problem manifests on my 2 desktops (running Vista) and my notebook computer (running Windows XP) and is definitely not machine specific. The one useful piece of info that I did glean from MS's tech support line was that the problem has been reported very often. When are we going to see a patch for a problem that MS obviously knows about and has been around for a considerable period of time?
