  1. My father and I are using nLite to prepare an installation of Windows for another machine. The version of Windows we started with is XP Home + SP1. The computer we're using has an ASUS P4S800D-X motherboard, a Intel P4 processor, a TDK DVD/CD burner, and an old CD-ROM drive (I can't remember the maker). We set up all the options in nLite and made an ISO file, and then used some burning software (made by ULead, I think?) to make a CD from it. This CD has all the correct files on it (we checked it to make sure it wasn't just the ISO file), and then put it in the other machine to run it. The normal "press any key to boot from CD" message came up, but when we press a key, the computer simply reboots, as if I had pressed CTRL-ALT-DELETE. So, the next thing we tried was burning the CD directly from nLite. Same results. Then, I tried using a different brand of CD-R and burned it from nLite at 4x speed. Same result. (What's really odd is, when you put these CDs into the machine they were made on, all the files are shown and the "Welcome to Windows" autorun program comes up.) My MB's BIOS has the option of booting from a USB flash drive, so we copied all of the files from one of the CDs onto the flash drive (we made sure there was nothing else on the flash drive) and tried booting from it...this time the BIOS said "invalid boot device" or something like that. Since the computer has two CD drives, we made the other CD drive the master and tried using it to boot from CD. (We had been using the TDK drive). Same result. Now, a couple of other important things I should mention...Almost every time nLite slipstreamed all my settings (right before it gave me the option to burn a CD or make an ISO), this error appeared in the middle of it (I don't remember what part): "The file D:\XP_RC\._setup.exe already exists." XP_RC is the folder where I put all of the Windows setup files from my original Windows CD. In an attempt to fix this error, we tried deleting the "._setup.exe" file to see what would happen, and then we got this error instead: "D-Index and length must refer to a location within the string. Parameter name: length" This error occurred during the "Integrating Drivers" part of the slipstreaming process. The CD made from this slipstream did the same thing as all the others when we tried booting from it. We haven't tried again since then. What's really weird is, the computer in question will boot from the original Windows disk just fine. Any suggestions?
