  1. Actually I have no idea. I've never installed the drivers myself.
  2. I am not too sure about that, especially that NT4's NTFS is apparently different from the NTFS used in 2K-XP. Feel free to post links if you have some. Plenty out there with a quick google search. http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&saf...amp;btnG=Search http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&saf...ver&spell=1
  3. Yes and no, Server 2003 enterprise and datacenter x86 can handle much more ram than that. That said, it's almost certain that this will not be changed in sp3 and not vista x86 either. You need an x64 os.
  4. Think again http://www.msfn.org/board/Windows_NT4_Today_t101091.html EDIT: I'm pretty sure there 3d party drivers for both to see each other's fat32 or ntfs file systems.
  5. I activated a copy of x64 on my shuttle, a month or two after that the shuttle died. I bought a new one, activated another x64 installation then a little while later formated it and activated x86 on it. You shouldn't have a problem.
  6. That’s interesting; do you have some info of the Control System? Not right now I don't; I would have liked to ask more questions of the tech but the environment was very loud and I didn't have much time with him. Next time they are back though I'm going to have plenty to ask.
  7. I have no idea how some of you got this to slipstream. When I try it it won't take any of my legal product keys, either vlk or retail. I've tried slipstreaming it onto sp2 and sp0, both times no luck. It does install fine on an existing sp2 machine with my employer's vlk but not on an sp0 machine. Is there something I'm missing?
  8. We just had a $3 million robotic device installed which comes with it's own network which happens to be token based. It's not the old ibm token ring but unfortunately that's all I know about it.
  9. Probably more than you wanted to know: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Front_side_bus
  10. I don't know what you downloaded but the version I got from connect was a full slipstreamed iso of vista with sp1, not just sp1 for vista. I was also able to remove things with vlite just fine.
  11. Get a password reset software... That does reset passwords, and very well for that matter. I've used it many times without a problem.
  12. I just installed it on a VM this afternoon and it screams compared to rtm. This could actually make me not hate vista. vlite'ing it now and will probably install it on a spare physical machine tomorrow.
  13. I'd encourage you to check out the ntop link I posted. Ntop is basically a nice html front end report system that runs on top of ethereal / wireshark. It makes things so much easier, oh, and it's free.
  14. heh, you actually had me for a second there.
  15. Tomorrow is Talk Like A Pirate Day! Post your TLAPD plans, activities. http://talklikeapirateday.com
  16. It will work and the wattage of your psu is just the max wattage it's capable of. I have a 600+ watt pse but even with a core2 and a 8800gtx at most I'm pulling 350ish from it. All your doing by increasing the load on it is decreasing the amount of time it will stay up after losing power. In my case I only bought it for instances where the power goes out for a second or two, that's a lot more common than long term outages for me. That and the insurance apc gives me. If say, my 52" lcd tv gets hit by a power surge apc covers me for something like $100k and I don't even have to claim it on my home owners insurance.
  17. Mine basically are big power strips. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16842101088 I do have a power strip on one of them only because I have more than 4 very small devices that need ups protection. On the one pictured only 4 of the outlets are ups, the others are just surge protected.
  18. I've seen those before but I never thought about the possibility of using them to connect two different homes. Is there any reason that wouldn't work if two houses are in close proximity and on the same transformer? The reason I ask, I know two people who share one cable modem connection with wifi which has worked 'okay' for them but has been slightly problematic. I wonder if this might be a possible solution.
  19. My company is starting an experiment in HD video. The primary users who are going to be editing / encoding said video don't have high end machines, mostly P4s that are just too new to replace but too old to be of any real value. The company would prefer to instead buy one massive beefy server if possible for server side encoding / rendering. I've seen server applications like this for maya, lightwave, fireworks, etc but nothing for premier or premier elements, which we are using. The only thing I can think of would be to do something like install xp64 (because premier won't install on server) on a server with loads of ram and fast disk and let the users TS into it. TS just doesn't seem ideal for this though. Is there anyone out there who works with a lot of video that could give some tips on this?
  20. Nice to see you here XP_2600. It looks like I'm not the only iexbeta traitor. EDIT: Yesterday I started using no-script for firefox to add additional security but found an unexpected benefit. My page load times must be half or less on most pages, especially forums.
  21. I was just about to suggest that myself as it's what I use just for this purpose. It's much nicer than synctoy and the pay version supports open files. The open files part is great for things like my outlook pst file.
