  1. I found a good and reliable company for Hard disk data recovery. It is an US based ISO 9001:2000 certified data salvaging & recovery service lab in North America. You can visit them at http://www.salvagedata.com I gave them Laptop with a dead hard drive and I got my data back with repaired Hard drive. You can call them for professional at 800-970-7188.
  2. Yes, these places really work. They use techniques which can include the disassembly of the drive and direct examination of the drive surface. Depending on just what is necessary (it is unlikely that your drive requires anything that extreme, but hard drives that have been through fires often do), it could be several thousand dollars. I most certainly hope more conventional methods of data recovery will prove effective. There are many companies doing data recovery services. Try Salvage Recovery Lab. I contacted them once and I got my problem solved. They got 90% of my data back. I was extremely happy to get my data back. You can call them at 1 203-973-0242. I think you will have to send the drive physically.
  3. Hello, I have a Maxtor 5000Le 80GB external unit. I am running Windows XP Pro. I've had this unit for years and it has been great. About a month ago my computer locked when booting and after checking out all my external hardware, I found out that this unit had caused the problem. It seemed that the usb port or the cable was the problem. When I unplugged the usb, plugged it into another port, and even replugged it into the original port all of a sudden it started working again. It has been working fine since then until today. . . Now the problem is: . . . . Windows boots just fine. . it just doesn't recognize this external hard drive at all. The hard drive is not making any noise at all, the green light on the unit is turned on showing that the unit is powered up. . .just no noise. I tried it with a new usb cord and still nothing. It's like an internal switch is out or maybe the internal usb connector on the unit is damaged or something. Please help. This unit has years and years of information in it and I really need to be able to get to it. Thank you,
  4. It could be bad sectors / damage to partition table or file system structure in such away that it will hang the system. I suggest downloading manufacture disk drive test or you can try the partition repair/data recovery software by “Salvage Data Recovery Lab Inc”. You can find it easily if you just run a search in google it’s name… Instructions are clear while installing. Connect your drive as secondary drive on the system (not external) / or even primary and let that software run. That at least will let you know if drive is ok.
