I've had a few problems with 1.21 and the installation of some older programs as explained in this thread. Because of that I'm sticking to 1.01 for my next build.

I used 1.0.1 to do all the tweaks and integration. 1.2.1 was only used to remove Visual Basic (turns out I needed it for another program, so I DL'ed it from MS), ESENT and Drive Format Support. Stuff I really don't 'have' to eliminate, but I wanted to experiment with it.

Yes. Thinking about Madhit's suggestion, I used 1.01 to integrate the service pack and hotfixes, then used 1.21 to do the last few modifications to the setup disk. That eliminated all the problems with the installation of the older programs. So, the question remains, what is being done differently in the two versions of nLite?

I've used the Gurgelmeyer SP5.1 update with Win2k and all of those programs before with no problems. I only started having problems when I tried to make a new disk with version 1.2.1, so it must be something nLite is doing differently.

I'm trying to make a Win2K disk with the Unofficial SP5.1. Last week I posted a message about the My Computer icon not appearing either on the desktop or in Windows Explorer and there being dead drive icons in ExplorerPlus. I solved that problem by selecting My Computer under Tweaks (Desktop-My Computer icon-Show). It seems with nLite 1.21 (and maybe the previous one) you have to select My Computer for it to be installed. (I used to leave that box unchecked.) Once I solved that problem I ran into another twist. Some older programs like Office 97, Photoshop 5.0, Presto! 3.0 and Money 98 wouldn't install. ntvdm.exe starts up but nothing else happens - there is no error message and no setup dialog appears. However, when using the same INI file in both nLite 1.21 and 1.01, only the 1.01 install works. What has changed in the latest versions that is causing this problem?

I just made a new Win2K disk with nLite 1.2RC. After installing the OS I couldn't access any of the partitions through Explorer or Novatix ExplorerPlus. The My Computer icon was missing in Explorer and clicking any of the drive icons in ExplorerPlus did nothing. I'm just curious, what program are you trying to install? I have 16-bit support removed from my machine but have never run into problems.

I don't know where the multi-processor line came from, but without it install worked. It froze again when I integrated the GeForce drivers from XFX. The nForce 6.86 driver pack says you must uninstall all old video drivers before installing the new ones, so I'm assuming there is a conflict during silent install. I'll post a list of drivers tomorrow, I don't have the list on this machine.

I'm positive I selected Automatic but that is the way WINNT.SIF was created. In any case, I'm running an A64 X2 processor, I don't know if that negates the entry though. It does work without driver integration. I've tried eliminating the nVidia drivers (I get a null script error when using nVidia's setup program, but the drivers seem to install fine), but that didn't work. My next plan is to eliminate each set to see which is at fault. I was hoping someone had the same problem and could tell me immediately.

I've been unable to get Win2K to install with the drivers integrated. I'm setting up with drivers for an Asus A8N5X mobo (no RAID, no Asus Probe, no audio drivers), XFX GeForce vid card, Audigy and Lexmark printer. At the very end of the driver install (search for components) the install stops and eventually freezes. Once I got an error message that the ProductID was invalid, but the 6 or 7 other times I've tried it just freezes. (I think the ProductID was a fluke.) EDIT: I just noticed in WINNT.SIF it says to not skip missing files.
