i think that fast user switching will help, this feature of windows xp allows more users to be loged in at the same time just select "switch user" from the "Log Off Windows" dialog box and select another user name from the login screen this way you can run vmware under one account and using this feature other people can login and use their accounts as usual.

If you need to run some old pieces of software or hardware that only work on Win98, why not use virtualization software? For example: my parallel port scanner has drivers only for win95 and win98 and i use a copy of win98 inside a virtual machine that runs on Windows XP and it works perfectly. I did this because i could not find WinXP/Win2K drivers for it and i did not want to buy a new scanner since my old one still works perfectly. Maybe for you this might be troublesome, but for me it was the only way to use that old scanner since i hate dualbooting

You ca only use 2 devices on a single ide slot (one slave and one master), in your case the only solution remainig is to buy an IDE PCI adapter or if you have some more money buy a new motherboard

to remove wmp10 use nlite (www.nliteos.com) and if you only want ot remove the media handlers in explorer go to Start->Run and type REGSVR32 /u SHMEDIA.DLL
