Thank you for the advice. I have cat 6 cable I am going to laydown, and I have a Dlink gig switch. I do have the jetway that has dual gig nics, and I have tried Untangle but it constantly froze. So, I was thinking psense as I have read a bit on it and keeping the linksys (that has ddwrt) and using it like a bridge for wifi devices in the house. Any thoughts or opinions on that?

Hello All,
Like a lot of folks I have managed, throughout the years to expand my home network, with the likes of either gaming consoles or laptops or pc's for the kids. Below you'll see an image of my setup with what I want to do.(The router and the Linksys are moved around as that's the way I would like to set it up.) My router is a Linksys WRT54G - running DD-WRT. I recently wanted to delve into actually hard wiring all my devices.
I wanted to actually build a router, I have read about pSense, and coyote Linux, I am presently playing around with unTangle, which I have to say I am having issues with it freezing. It's built on JetWay NC81. I have 2 gig Ram and I am using an sata 60 gig 2.5 harddrive, oh and a AMD+2 processor.
I suppose I am asking opinions on what route I should take. I wanted to keep the DD-WRT for the wifi capability for things like the PSP and iPhones. I mainly want to stream media @ home.
I hope I didn't lose anyone with my convoluted rambling, but I wanted your opinions. Another thing I am running Vista on most of the PC's and I was thinking of either adding WHS or Win2k8 for a File Server. Ok now I'm done.

I had a quick question. I see that AutoIt seems to the way to go for a lot of software, but I really have no knowledge in scripting, so I have no idea as to what the commands mean in the script. I have installed the latest version of Nero 7 by changing the entries in the SFX, by using WinRar. It looks like this;

I also worked on a cleanup batch file last night. I had no idea what I was doing, and it took me about 2 hours to get it right. Mazin, actually started me off with a few lines to add to my existing cleanup.cmd, so I wanted to say thanks mazin. I then took it and ran with it. All it does is makes some directorys, renames some shortcuts and moves them to some folders that I want. So, if someone can eyeball it, and tell me what they think or how I could improve it, I'd be greatly appreciative. Oh and rado354, and kof94, helped me, and pointed me to the AutoIt website. I saw a book there,"Windows Admin Scripting Little Black Book, Third Edition". Any thoughts about this book? (I have the first edition, I don't know how it got in my library, but I found it yesterday.) Should I get this one?

SWEET, and I went to that AutoIt site and it suggested "Windows Admin Scripting Little Black Book". They posted the second edition. But, I looked through my own library, because the black book part rang a bell, and viola I have the first edition. Don't remember why I got it, but I have it.
So, that should be a good place to start, right? I also, have a couple of VB books too. Come, to think of it, how the h3ll did I get these books? Sorry, thinking aloud!lol

I'm not familiar on how to make the script run, as I'm not familiar with AUTOIT. How can I implement that in the RunOnceEx.cmd file?
Also, I had two off topic questions.
First question, I have a few programs that are NULLSOFT packaged. I found this out using the Installer Tools. When I right clicked the executible this is what I got.
Nullsoft ® Installer

(All switches MUST be upper case. No double quotes)

Install program to path.

I tried it with the /S switch, and I still had to interact with the prog to install it. I also, tired the /D=x:\dirname, and that didn't work at all. Then I saw the CMenu options for AutoIt. How can I make the script to make this prog run? (I did read the help me file, but it wasn't helpful to me).
Second question, I also checked the TweakUI and this is what I got back;

I really am greatful. Being that this pc is my very own, the decision was easy!!! I just wanted to thank you for your patience, and your support. You could have just as easily, told me it can't be done, or mocked my ignorance, but you chose to take the time out, and educate a perfect stranger. So, being that /GROUP, is for INNO installs only, is there a way that I can create the 3 folders (1-Applications, 2-Multimedia, 3-Toolbox), and then have the folders created in the startmenu moved to these folders?
I'm thinking a batch file, that would run after the complete install, and move the folders over. (Of course, I have no idea of scripting, so forgive my ignorance).

Ctrl-X, thank you so much for your direction. I made some modifications, to the runonceex.cmd file, and ran it. I looked into the registry, and I was able to see not only the entries of the applications, but the path of the executibles as well
I am doing a test run on my virtual pc as we speak. I'll keep you abreast as to the outcome.

Here is where I would like the Target to be:

So, mazin suggested I use the /Group switch

Since I have been having so much trouble with the RunOnceEx method of installing my applications. I stubbled across WPI. It looks great, and pretty straight forward, but here's is my question. Is there a way I could specify where I want the programs installed, and can I have the icons setup in certain folders in the Start Menu.
Here is an example on what I would like to do;
Files ...........................Installation Directory.....................................Start Menu Folders
MSOffice......................c:\Program Files\1-Applications\MSOffice.........1-Applications\MSOffice
Nero 7.........................c:\Program Files\2-Multimedia\Nero7...............2-Multimedia\Nero

Personally, I perfer to have my system setup this way, because IMO it's easier for me to find what I need, and it looks clean. So, with that being said, can this be done in WPI, and if it can, can someone be so kind as to steer me in the right direction. I appreciate all the help.

Ok so I eyeballed the link you gave me, and made some adjustments to the runonceex file. I ran the file and checked the registry, and now I have the entries in the registry.
Some still don't have the path of the executibles, but I think I am on the right path. Does that sound about right to you?

Ok Takeshi are you saying that I have multiple quotation problems? If so, can you point me in the right direction so I can fix them?

Well it skips all the programs and the first error msg occurs with Nero.
Windows cannot find '\apps\nero.exe'. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again. Then it installs office with no problem then goes down to cleanup.cmd and displays the same error msg.
Then upon further inspection. The only app that is installed is office 2003. The other applications never install.
I don't know what I did wrong.

Did you download the Office 2003 Resource Kit? If not, you may want to download it here and read the webpage on advanced setup. Office 2003 Advanced Installation
I hope that works. It worked for me, and I was even able to specify what directory I wanted it installed and what directory I wanted the icons installed in, on the startup menu. Now I have to figure out how to get the other programs to work. lol Good luck.

Hello all. First off I wanted to thank Mazin, for the help he has given me. Thanks Mazin. With that said, I am having problems with my installation. I created the winnt.sif file and placed it in the i396 folder. I also, put the runonceex.cmd, cmdlines.txt, and the cleanup.cmd files in the $oem$ folder.
The XP installation went fine. The problem I am having is with the installation of the applications. After the first logon, I get the screen that says windows is now setting up the following items: Then it lists all the applications I want to install. Then it just zooms down the list and stops at one of the apps and says
Windows cannot find '\apps\application.exe'. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again.
So, below I am going to provide a list of the following files; winnt.sif, runoncecmd.cmd, cmdlines.txt, and cleanup.cmd If anyone could eyeball these and steer me in the right direction I would greatly appreciate it.
Oh and I ran the runonceex.cmd, and checked the hklm\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\runonceex key, and all it says is Name = Data, Type = Installing Applications. (I checked that key because that is what the tutorial suggests).

Thanks mazin.
I ran the setup for Diskeeper, and I found where it put the .msi file. But, I'm not able to copy the file, because it says it's in use by another program. Also, when I run a complete install of diskeeper, the .msi file disappears. Any ideas?
Also, how can I tell if a program is INNO?

Thank you mazin for your help. It is greatly appreciated. This is what I have accomplished so far. I was able to go into Nero 7 using winrar and editing the SFX comment, to read like so.

Now I have a few questions, if anyone can help me. I am not quite sure if I can do the same SFX changes to the other programs I want to install below. Also, if I can make the SFX changes do I need to add those switches in the Runcmd file for each program?

You can, even, set your shortcut folder in Start menu using the switch: /GROUP="FolderName"

But, do the switches you suggested work with the apps below? (installing to a specific directory).
Another question, the /GROUP="Foldername" switch, where exactly would I put that on the command line?
And the last question, when I did do the unattended cd. I installed it on a pc that had 3 hard drives. C, D, E. On drive c: there was a copy of windows xp home. I wanted a clean install of xp professional. But, when the unattended installation was complete, instead of it installing over the operating system on c; it installed itself in the e: directory!!. Any ideas why this happened? (below is a copy of what my Runcmd file looks like).

Thank you for the help. I edited the comment file with the text you provided. The pop up box that, I used to get doesn't come up anymore.
But, the part that didn't work was specifying of install destination. It installed to c:\program files\nero\nero 7. Any ideas? Also, is there a way I could specify a specific folder to have the icons put in the start menu? I normally like having my Start Menu organized like this: 1-Applications 2-Multimedia 3-Toolbox. So, if you or anyone else has an idea how to do this I'd be really grateful.

I have a few questions. I downloaded Nero 7.5.1.1,
I used Ironside's approach. (posted on 21 Aug). I opened up the file with WinRar. I edited the conf.txt file. I remarked the ROOTDIR and added the following lines at the end;

I saved everything, and ran the file. It installed only the programs I wanted, which was fine. But, it didn't install it to the directory that I wanted it in. Also, when I started the program, a screen popped up with my info, and serial number. I pressed enter and it came up fine after that.
Here's the questions. I would like to have Nero installed like this:
c:\Program files\1-Applications\Nero\Nero 7, is it possible to do?
Also, is there a way not to have the serial number and my information pop up when I first run the program, and lastly, what is the difference with the values 1 and 2 in line three of the SFX script. (Silent=1)
I appreciate all the help.
