I replaced the slow, clunky, noisy 5GB hard drives on my ThinkPad 770E with 16GB Compact Flash drives. I’m using two 44-pin IDE adapters, works in Ultra DMA mode, read 20 MB/s, write 6-10 MB/s. I copied my existing installation. Win2k disk manager will not “make active” removable drives so I plugged it into my Linux machine with a USB adapter and used Gparted to create an NTFS partition and set the “boot” flag. Success!
