Vista Default Download Folder

Just select the Desktop next time you download something, it will remember your settings.

Not mine, it keeps going back to my user folder.

Well, I mean after a restart, it will change back to the user folder until I download something again.

Type %userprofile% in the search box in start menu (or in Run). It will bring up all your personal folders. Right-click download --> location tab --> move location --> pick where you want your downloads to go.

Done.

You can change the location of all the other folders as well like Documents, Music, Pictures, Contacts, etc.

Open Registry Editor (Type regedit in Run dialog box and hit enter)

and navigate to: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer

Now check the string (REG_SZ) value named Download Directory, change the path according to your need.

Restart IE to take effect.
