Custom Boot Screen SUCCESS :)

Thanks to all for your help. :rolleyes:

I solved the problem by using my own kernal and Boot Editor to insert a new main bmp and remove the Pro overlay. It then worked its magic and wala a functional custom boot screen in my Unattended install CD.

How Sweet It Is :excited: :beer:

Thanks again go out to everyone for all the guides and help.

Last night I used Resource Hacker to check the original ntoskrnl.exe in my Unattended install and it indicates it is File/Prod #: 5.1.2600.1151

This is the latest kernel release.

If you used the Update Rollup, then your ntoskrnl.exe will be this build number.

The reason any previous bootscreens do not work is most likely that the build number is incorrect.

This also occurred when service pack 1 was released and will likely happen again when service pack 2 is released.

I placed mine in the $oem$/$1/Install folder. It doesn't matter that much where you place it as long as you call it from the correct location in your winnt.sif file in the guirunonce section.

I place all my batches in the same directory, except for my cleanup batch.

I found an easier way to change the boot.ini, rather than bootcfg.

In your unattend file you could put this:

[setupData]

OsLoadTimeout=40

OSLoadOptions="/noguiboot /fastdetect"

LOADIDENTIFIER="gosh xp"

But the only thing that'll change is the timeout. This is because txtsetup.sif trumps unattend file.

So in txtsetup.sif under [setupData] add what's above. You'll need to delete any preexisting values.

After you do this the default timeout will be 40 seconds, and in the boot menu it'll say "gosh xp". This will work for both xp home and pro. You don't need to use an unattend file. This might also work for changing the kernel, but i didn't test this.

-gosh

Hey guys, I have a (maybe) stupid question...:

I want to change the default Start Button text and remove the button's Windows. I know I can use Resource Hacker to do it after the Windows install, but how can I do that in the unattended setup?

Add this to your tweaks.reg file: - Thanks to DaveXP for this tweak

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Desktop\General]
"BackupWallpaper"="c:\\windows\\web\\wallpaper\\xppaper.jpg"
"Wallpaper"="c:\\windows\\web\\wallpaper\\xppaper.jpg"

I tried following these procedures on an existing installation but the registry entry didn't seem to help. I made sure the file existet though. Have any of you been able to use this successfully?

Thanks!

Try this to change the wallpaper. Ive used it plenty of times and it definitely works:

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

;Set Custom Wallpaper
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop]
"TileWallpaper"="0"
"Wallpaper"="%windir%\\web\\wallpaper\\wallpaper.jpg"
"Wallpaperstyle"="2"

When you run the registry in your normal windows environment, you wont notice any change, ie the new wallpaper wont be implemented until you do 1 of the following things:

1) log off completely

2) restart

3) simply use winkey + L to use the switch user feature to goto the login screen, and login to your account again. (This is the shortest and my fav one)

Hope it helps

Danish

How would I go about getting my cpu meter to look like this...

post-34-1069889537.gif

I've got as far as changing the bitmaps so the graphic part is blue, but How would I change the text, or the grids. The guy who originally posted Here has completely customised task manager, I've searched through the file but I can't find a string for the colour.

I've asked on neow!n and aquasoft, the board it was originally posted on, but had no reply.

Hi Everyone,

This is a bit offtopic flaming..................Moderators u can delete / move my message to the right forum if u like.

I've got a super Unattended Boot CD by following all the incredible information on this phenomenol forum. I have been waiting for a chance, since a month to find a suitable question to post here but you guys never gave me a chance!!!......I must say that everything is so well documented on this site and your search engine covers it all.

In 10 years of my experience noone has gone as far as the level you guys have taken the Unattended & Customization bit. Every Single Detail matters.

My Sincere regards to ArronXP, Gosh, GreenMachine, b0r3d, Numinous, DaveXP & all the others involved in this great Unattended project. I will definately go for a gold membership to contribute something for the good cause.....pls let me know if there is anything else i could help.

Sincerely,

Nitin Manik.
