setup freezes during "registers components"

Any help here? Hoping someone will have had similar experience before I have to resort to a basic install with SP4 only...

Final step of install during "Registers Components," gets halfway through the progress bar and then hangs.

Got this method from the forum here.

Triple checked the guide, all has been done accordingly.

Are you using nLite 1.3.0.4? If yes you need to move to 1.3.5 to have this bug fixed. If you can't move because you are using windows 2000 then you need to remove manually all the multiple entries for hotfixes in svcpack.inf before creating the iso.

Thanks, of course I read this after giving up and starting on a basic build...

I am using 1.3.0.4, using Win2K.

I tried again last night after learning I could run taskmgr during setup. I watched the processes and two things happened:

1 - The system would hang on JRE6 addon install.

2 - After killing the JRE6 process, the installs would continue to the end and then repeat the cycle over again. The cycle would include all addons and KB909520 & KB917008 but no other hotfixes.

Assuming I remove the JRE6, would this behaviour be fixed by editing the svcpack.inf?

I´ve already tested the latest version on Win2000, but prefer 1.2.1, why sholdn´t it be possible to change ?

Didn´t find anything written, that Win2000 support has been cancelled.

I have tried your preset on the 1.4RC2 and it went fine.

But I didn't insert your addons so the cause may be in them.

So you could try the RC2 and if it doesn't help then try to see which addon it is, if you find which one was it I'll be glad to check and fix it.

You can test it fast using virtual machines, no need to burn media or real installs for this.

Well, I'm having the same problem. Don't know why now, the first few I tried went fine, but now I'm always getting the freeze at about 40-45% of "registers components" progress bar. I've got a variety of options/tweaks, but other than that, only SP3 and IE7 are integrated. Nothing removed.

Twice now I've gotten it to continue by going into the taskmgr and killing a proc called nhelper.exe

It wasn't using any CPU, I just decided it looked like a likely culprit and sure enough.... killing it allows the process to continue.

justdrew, I suspect you have run nLite multiple times on the same source. Please attach (not paste) your Last Session.ini. Make sure to always start with a fresh copy of your CD files/folders, do all your work in one nLite session and integrate only one SP. Enjoy, John.

That's more clever than me . I had that problem once a year ago and found out that restarting the machine, the install would go on with no further problem. Not very elegant I know.

well, after several trials, I've narrowed it down to something in the unattended phase that's causing the hang. (I call it a hang, but I've actually seen it continue on it's own, after a pause of 30minutes-hour or so). I'm going to try it without the 'turn firewall off' option, maybe that's it...
