BombaTwist
was just wondering if my Rosewill 600W PSU be able to run this Gigabyte GeForce 8500gt.i might consider just going for the 8600gt, but still not sure. Is it worth it?Foxconn 8600gt 256mb doesn't look bad, only $30 more.I'm not really a hardcore gamer, i usually only play Counter-strike, Counter-strike: Source, or Day Of Defeat: SourceMy current specs:Amd Athlon 64 3000+ Venice CoreDFI N4..(something, i forgot) MoboWestern Digital 250gb SATA 16mb cache1gb ram pc2700ATi Radeon x300SERosewill 600W PSUWould those cards be an overkill with my current specs? BombaTwist
i don't wanna spend too much on my next video card, but if its really worth getting the 8600gt over the 8500gt, i'll go for it.How many pixel pipes does the 8500gt have? i can't seem to find how many.I see that one site says it has 12 pixel pipelines and another says it has 16 pixel pipelines.Im confused x.x Edited May 19, 2007 by BombaTwist
DigeratiPrime
the 8600GT is about twice as powerful as the 8500GT in terms of synthetic benchmarks. The 8600GT uses around 50-70 Watts from what I remember and does not require an additional power connector. Zxian
I really recommend that EVERYONE read this article when asking the question "does my PSU have enough power". People far overestimate the amount of power their system requires, and often waste money on a high-wattage PSU when they don't need it.
nmX.Memnoch
Honestly I'd be more worried about the quality of that PSU.
BombaTwist
well it seems to be not too bad. Lots of good ratings and reviews.
Zxian
Honestly I'd be more worried about the quality of that PSU.That's exactly my point. A 450W or 500W PSU doesn't mean jack if the brand is something that isn't well known or is known to be bad. I'd take a 380W Seasonic over a 600W Zalman any day... oofki
7900/7950's beat the 8600's in every aspect I have seen. I dont think they are worth it. I wouldnt buy anything less then a 8800gts in the 8 series.
nmX.Memnoch
7900/7950's beat the 8600's in every aspect I have seen. But you won't see a 79x0 run a DX10 game/benchmark. It has been said that the performance if 8500/8600 based cards may be very good under DX10 games. There aren't enough to test with yet so it's hard to tell... BombaTwist
will dx9(example: 7300gt) games be able to run dx10 games at all?If it does, ill just spend my money on a better dx9 card. If not, i will go for the 8x00gt's.also, what is HDCP and will i need it in the future? Edited May 27, 2007 by BombaTwist
ripken204
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HDCPyou will be able to play dx10 games with a dx9 video card, but a dx10 video card will play the gamer better and will take full use of all the dx10 features. aka, it will look better and run faster. BombaTwist
do you personally think its better to invest in a dx10 card or just buy a better dx9 card? In the long run that is.
ripken204
i personally think that you should get dx10 only for the purpose that you will be set for the future.
