SVCHOST Error

If you get this error:

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

svchost.exe - application error

The instruction at "0x745f2780" referenced memory at "0x00000000". The memory could not be "read".

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

And also a error dialog about "Generic Host process for Win32 services", then this may resolve the problem:

One of these updates is the cause

These were:

Root Certificate

KB905474 Genuine Advantage

KB890830 April Malware Scanner

open in Safe Mode, choose NO and do a System Restore prior to these updates.

Hope this helps.

If it does not help try this:

1. Boot into safe mode with Network

2. Disable automatic updates in Windows

3. Reboot system into normal mode

4. Do a manual Windows update

5. Enable automatic updates in Windows

4. Reboot once again

Yeh, a whole bunch of numbers etc. Microsoft is obviously not checking their updates very well

First there was the ANI update and Realtek Control Panel and now this, all in the space of two weeks.

I can hardly wait until "patch Tuesday" in May.

Good luck with your problem.

Looks like an XP update messed things up.

Hope this help if you get this problem.

Our school district has had many of these. While I have been unable to find word one about it on Microsoft's site, I did find this article:

http://www.kb.ucla.edu/articles/svchostexe...plication-error

This article includes a longer version of the fix which almost always works (the short, easy fix above is not always succesful). I've only had to reformat and reinstall one stubborn machine so far.
