Disabling SPEEDSTEP

Can anybody point me to a method for disabling speedstep on my acer 5685 - T7200 - i945pm?

There are no options in bios, and there is no option in the power schemes section in cpl. Changing the scheme to 'always on' or 'home office desktop' makes no difference at all.

I am trying to install osx 10.4.6 into vmware and have stumbled at this hurdle. Vmware gives the error message "The CPU has been disabled by the guest operating system. You will need to power off or reset the virtual machine at this point."

Oh, btw, I have also tried SpeedSwitchXP which doesn't work either.....

OK, so it wasn't a speedstep issue. I saw on vmware site that disabling it was a solution for the error message i was getting. However i failed to perform a custom installation with the correct intel/sse patches and that was causing the hang.

However, i'm still a bit miffed that i can't disable this feature and fix the cpu multiplier to 12, so if anybody can enlighten me i would still be v. grateful.

Cheers all.
