Problem with ASMS

Hello everybody!

I have a problem with a hp dc7700 that does not want to get installed with my nlited windows xp cd with sp2 because of the inability of copying the asms-folder from the cd to the harddisk. You need to know that this workstation has no parallel ata ports anymore -> all drives are connected via sata - even the integrated dvd-writer. Surprisingly you can still access all devices via atapi without the need of any matrix storage controller drivers. I think there is some emulation happening. I tried a standard sp2ed windows-xp setup cd and it worked. My nlited cd won't install because after copying files and the boot into the gui it gives me before initializing the hardware an error that says that the crc-check failed when copying the ASMS-directory. I already tried without integrating any drivers or something now I have definitely NO idea what's sooo problematic with my nlited disk. It still works an all machines except those hp dc7700. I will attach my config (slightly censored). All is done using nlite 1.3.0.4. Hopefully someone can help me...

Have you tried just making ISO with nLite from that installation files without any changes, does it work?

I didn't try that but I will do so on Monday. I already made an image without any drivers or hotfixes and I still get that error so I suggest it is not a driver thing. But it's still strange that it works everywhere except those machines with sata-only. My vmware-box installs fine...

thanks for your reply :)

Seeing a CRC error, I first tought about a too-much-used-CDRW or a bad burning, so I've tried with two other cds and two other versions. I feel quite relieved not to be the only one seeing that very same bug. I also experienced the same weird fact that the unattended cd works on a computer without sata, but doesn't work on mine filled only with sata.

It seems obvious now that it is not a random bug but it depends on the materials.

I keep searching ...

A way to bypass that bug may be to use an older version of nlite (if the bug comes from it), or if it's generated by one of the latest official hotfixe.

I've tried to install on an IDE drive but it still get the same error, even if I unplug the sata drive, so I think it has nothing to do with the s-ata or u-ata drive, but it has to depends on the motherboard.

Let me know on which motherboard you experienced that bug, mine is an "ASUS A8N-SLI Premium" (nForce4).

I'll also try to make an unattended install without nlite at all, I'll tell you if it works.

ok, solved! it works right now :).

I don't know exactly why but burning the image onto a dvd makes it work like a charm. It has nothing to do with drivers or something. I suggest the dvd-drive in the dc7700 which is a liteon-multiformat-writer with lightscribe and so on, has troubles when initializing cds. It takes quite long to init a cd... longer than to do so with a dvd.

Great to hear thoses news. Now that you mention it, I can't recall using a unattended cd on this computer, until now ...

I'll try and tell you. I also wonder what burning program did you use ?

Greetings.

I was having the same issue a while back with an XP ASMS error. I was burning the ISO in Nero, and what I found was that I needed to make sure to burn the ISO as 'disk-at-once' , if it was set to 'track-at-once' I would get the CRC and ASMS error.

Could give it a try if you don't want to use your dvd-r's up. Hope this helps.

I burn all my unattented iso with the "disk-at-once" option, in that case it didn't seem to be the problem. It was clearly the use of a cd or a dvd.

Keep in mind that it has to do with our dvd-drive (Mine is a Pioneer DVR-111D) !.

People using cds on cd-drives are not concerned by this bug.
