Open With dialogue when i click IE icon on desktop?

Hi All,

I've just made my first working unattended install using Nlite and ryanVm's intergrator for the hotfixes etc and i slipstreamed SP2. I have burnt to cd and all works fine. Except that is for the IE icon on my desktop. When i click it i get an "Open With" dialogue.

I have chosen classic desktop and within Nlite i also chose to display certain things on the desktop. I think IE was one of them but can't remember for sure. If i browse to C:\program files\internet explorer and click the icon there it works fine.

Has anyone else had this problem and worked out how to fix it? i'm sure its something simple but i can't seem to pinpoint it. please help!

Thanks in advance

Steve

I've had this happen to me a lot.

To be honest, I've never tracked it down to what was causing the issue (just my theories  ). My theory was the settings for Internet Explorer to set the pop-up blocker to High, and/or integrating IE7. Please post your last_session.ini so we can take a closer look.

Did you run nLite multiple times through the "source" of XP or is this the only time you've ran nLite? The reason I ask is because this INI file is pretty bare. The INI file gets written over every time it's ran. You will want to locate the 2nd to last INI file or just start over with a clean source of XP SP2.

Also, did you try Madhits45's suggestions?

Thanks Madhit and Strotee,

Mad your solution works, but i really want to get this thing working "out of the tin" so to speak.

Strotee , yes i ran a couple of times. I'll try again though. I have backed up a folder to the point of intergrating the service packs and RyanVm's updates before i did any option changes i'll go back and use that, and if it still wont work i'll try it without the hotfixes

Thanks for all your help :)

Stebooth- I dont know of another way to fix that issue with IE7. This is just a glitch with integration. If you manually install IE7 the issue does not occur. I would ask Nuhi for his help although I dont believe there is a way for him to fix this. I believe nlite just integrates IE7 install which can also be done with the install file itself (without using nlite). I would bet that doing the integration manually outside of nlite still has this issue. In that case all nuhi could do is put in something inplace that would fix this issue after it has occured (which you could do yourself).

Also when you include your last session file use the attach file option or attach code option. Either of those will make your post a lot smaller.

  • 1 month later...

i have the same problem with IE6, the desktop icon starts the "open with" dialog, also IE doesn't show up in the start menu (set to classic), however it appears in c:\program files\internet explorer. i also can't run windows update properly with this messed up IE and IE7 won't install either. can anyone confirm if this also happens with older (1.21) versions of nlite? i use 1.3
